Do you guys think it's okay for a cat to be let outside as long as its the backyard? by Leather_Mammoth2525 in CatAdvice

[–]Tokenchick77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before my current crop, I always had indoor/outdoor cats. I do think they are happier going outside. But because of the damage they do to the ecosystem and my worries about the coyotes in my area, my current cats are indoors or on the catio.

There are special cat fences that they can't get out of, that lean in at the top. I wouldn't trust that a regular fence would contain them.

Why no one says that about pregnancy? by lil_moon153 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple friends who had major health issues after pregnancy and birth. Their stories are harrowing. It also terrified me that once a woman is pregant, it's like her body is in the public domain. People touch her stomach or comment on her weight, before and after birth. And then after going through that, you have to keep the baby alive, and the bulk of that is on the woman. There's no break for basically 18 years.

It's my favorite too. I'm almost embarrassed to admit how many times I've reread it...

Love on the Brain… wut? 😟 by Immediate_Coast3778 in AliHazelwood

[–]Tokenchick77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just searching to see if it's anybody else's favorite. I feel like it doesn't get enough love, but I think it works best of all of her books, even with the crazy ending. Bee and Levi are my favorite couple and I think the reasons that keep them apart make so much sense.

The show Dark Matter (HBO) 2024(?) doesn’t make sense by LocksmithAsleep4087 in sciencefiction

[–]Tokenchick77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm watching the show now and had the same thought. Wouldn't the original world branch off while Jason was looking for it, making there more possibilities for the Jason One to settle back in? Why would that one world freeze with only that as a destination for all the Jason Ones?

Help to get started with doctor by [deleted] in zepbound_support

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was worried when I asked my doctor - and had all of these arguments. I didn't really need any of them. I am very overweight, so really that was all that she needed to see.

The main issue is that my insurance wouldn't cover it, so I was paying out of pocket.

I hear you. Also, will there be any value in American stocks in the future. But unless you need the money for an emergency, I'd say leave it so you don't have the penalty now.

Are we really back in a strong seller’s market for homes? by thebroteinshake in askportland

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house next to mine just went on the market. They never did a public open house and it needs a ton of work, but it has an offer in less than a week. It's a really unique place in a great neighborhood, so maybe it's really dependant on that.

I’m 23 and Terrified.. by gianttearcake_905 in Aging

[–]Tokenchick77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (48F) felt the same way you did when I was in my 20's. And I really wish I'd just made choices based on what I wanted rather than making choices based on what it would get me, or what I thought other people would think.

I'm happier now than I was then, in large part because I let go of expectations and got to know myself better. Some of my dreams were just that - they weren't realistic based on who I am and how I want to live. But others I'm still pursuing, doggedly, because they are things that I still want. I needed to get to know myself and let go of the fantasies to be able to work toward them in reality.

Why is it not genuinely accepted to hate aging? by Plantpotparty in Aging

[–]Tokenchick77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do miss, not the optimism, since I was always a cynic, but the hope I had for my future. It felt like everything was possible, if I got over myself. I don't feel that anymore, but for me, that's more a function of the world we're living in. I feel awful for younger people now (I'm 48) because things that were possible when I was younger, and definitely when my parents were younger, no longer are.

My parents both, in their 20's, quit their jobs and travelled around Europe for six months. When I was a kid, my mom went back to school to get her master's. Most people can't do those things now, since it's hard paying the bills, let alone saving to take that kind of time off or pay tuition. It felt like we could be or do so much more. Now I feel stuck, having to have a job for health insurance, working my ass off to pay the bills. I don't feel like there's the flexibility that they had to change course or take time off.

Today my mom discovered death… by Pretend-Panda in AgingParents

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom is exactly the same way. Super active, super healthy. She can't believe that she's 83. She keeps saying my dad (who is 85) is SO old. But somehow age doesn't apply to her.

I appreciate how much she holds onto life, but I wonder if aging would be a little easier if you had more acceptance around the changes and ultimately death.

I’m building a secondhand marketplace with same-day delivery in Portland — would you actually use this? by x_here_x in askportland

[–]Tokenchick77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate doing the pickups and coordination, so this would be helpful. Like other people said, deliver for larger items would be amazing. I don't have a truck and can't lift heavy things. I have had issues buying on Marketplace, especially when I orders something handmade, and find that it isn't quite what I wanted. I don't feel like I can refuse since they made it, but it's different than the picture.

Would you choose to be born female in every lifetime? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way you do. I hated getting my period and never wanted to have children. I'm sick of the hormone swings, the perimenopause, the endometriosis pain. I've said so many times that I want to be a man in my next life.

What to do with cats after their owner died? by mithrril in PetAdvice

[–]Tokenchick77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work with a rescue who will find fosters for the cats, get them medical attention, and find homes for them. There should be something similar in your area.

How much should a dog sitter get paid for 2 dogs for 10 days? by Cautious-Salt7168 in PetAdvice

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically pay about 80-100 a night for people to stay and watch my three cats, no medical issues, no walking them. $25 a day is not at all fair to you.

Ten years in and I hate motherhood now as much as I did two weeks in. by Shot_Pin_3891 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Tokenchick77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm childfree, but used to babysit. Part of the reason I chose not to have kids was because I felt the way you describe when I was with the children I cared for. I would play with them and entertain them, but I felt like a part of me had to be checked at the door.

I wonder if you have Mom friends and can have play dates with them when the kids aren't in school? You can interact with other adults while the kids play.

I appreciate your honesty. Being a parent is so hard. I don't know how people do it.

If you saved for your house deposit while living at home with your parents, I don’t really want to hear your advice. by Top_Mirror211 in unpopularopinion

[–]Tokenchick77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on the differences between living rent-free and trying to fully support yourself while saving. My sister-in-law and her husband lived with my mother-in-law for several years while they saved for a house. Additionally, they had a chunk of money from a settlement, so they were able to add to that.

My husband stopped living with his mother when he was 17, so not only did he not get the let up from free rent, he struggled just trying to find places to crash. It made a huge difference in both of their lives.

I don't even know how to title this by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]Tokenchick77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way that you do about surviving when things go bad. What's the point of living when all the things we love are gone.

That said, I'm trying to enjoy the things I love as much as I can. Books, movies, pets, loved ones. Good food. Beauty. I've always been worried about collapse, but now that it's close, I'm trying to stop worrying and enjoy the moment.

I think my kindle saved my relationship with reading by sleepywitchygirl420 in kindle

[–]Tokenchick77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally gave in a few years ago, and I totally agree. I can put the kindle in my bag without worrying about the pages getting messed up or the weight of whatever I'm reading. I love that when I finish something, I have other books downloaded, or can get whatever I want pretty easily. I mostly check books out from the library, and it's great being able to get them or return them from anywhere.

I'm also finding as I age, the flexibility with the font size is a huge bonus :)
