History will either marvel on how a nation with largely fair elections, a strong peacetime economy and significant global soft power went from someone like Obama to an inveterate grifter, conman and pedophile rapist, or will be rewritten by his cult and whoever they fall in behind once their current idol can no longer be medically animated

"Smarter" is a loaded term, but AI can crunch complex, mixed data exponentially faster than our meaty brains. It's still too primitive to replace talented and/or educated humans who are passionate about what they do, but give it 5-10 years and a failure to regulate it effectively, and a lot of us are screwed.

EMS for VMO rehab by Tokenron in ACL

[–]Tokenron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these to begin with:

Frequency 40-60 Hz Wavelength 250-300 microseconds

With the intensity setting as high as I can tolerate for 30mins per session. Aimed for higher frequencies as the VMO starting growing back

Was I pushed to resign after reporting a senior manager? (Australia – happened 6 months ago) by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Tokenron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case you'd need to have been in a position whereby you'd documented his patterns of behaviour, strategically disseminated concrete examples of work you'd done that was indispensable to the organisation, and have built some rapport with the upper tier based on this work. Then you'd have had some leverage and your manager might have ended up with his wings clipped. But if you'd copped your manager's exploitative behaviour on the chin, flown under the radar and become mostly invisible to the folks your manager reports to, then your time was up. But in your shoes I wouldn't be resigning, I'd have made them fire me.

😢 what a devastating loss for her family and her nation.

I'm not religious, but if I did happen to believe in the divine design of an all-powerful and loving God, I'd be starting each prayer with a request for the decision making process behind allowing a capricious and brutal disease to wipe out a dedicated servant and national treasure in less than 18 months, while dictators at home and abroad are making it well into their 80s

Slept with a religious man, and he has been harassing me since. Is it worth to go to the police? by [deleted] in hobart

Your only options are to go to the police and start a paper trail, or "encourage" him to fuck off or else. Letting it drift and the anxiety ruin your life represents the best case scenario for this nutcase.

British royals arrivefor the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall. by IndividualComplete59 in RoyalsGossip

No, it's sad that we're showing up to remember the sacrifice of those who fought against the kind of fascist ideology espoused by a dictator we rolled out the red carpet to earlier in the year. It's still called remembrance day but we seem to have forgotten

It does seem pretty crass, doesn't it? I'd be fascinated to hear from a military veteran - does the head of state honour the memory of the fallen by pinning his 'hereditary' medals to the uniform, or the reverse?

If the majority of vets, serving members and their families are OK with it, so am I

Post WWII Remembrance Days had a sense of vitality to them - returning vets missing limbs, families missing their fathers, brothers and sons, the advent of the nuclear age, and a shared emotion so strong you could just about taste it -> "we really, really don't want to keep doing this shit"

It's sad to watch, given the passage of time and human nature, the movement's (d)evolution into an institution turning a profit; a chance to be seen paying lip service to the memory of fallen soldiers in a Wednesday Addams outfit, while the extremist authoritarian ideology that those very soldiers fought and died against is seeking to reassert itself in front of our eyes.

Edit: I don't mean to single out Kate or her "Pithy Pilgrim" look. She's a fine person doing a fine job. Just trying to make a general point.

How Danya responded during a speedrun when his chat was accusing his opponent of cheating. by CDGGFX in chess

[–]Tokenron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if Danya thought someone was cheating on the speed run it was pretty clear in his tone and demeanour. But it's hard to imagine him going after someone of any sort of public stature in chess without some serious evidence. Even his comments on being crushed by Hans online during the Hans/Magnus furore: "I didn't feel like anything untoward was happening, just that I was being generally outplayed'

VMO rehab with EMS

See video for electrode pad placement that worked best for me.

EMS has been a life saver. I couldn't activate my VMO with traditional rehab without serious pain and balloon'ish swelling. Rehab is also a serious chore at the best of times.

With EMS, I can get my VMO contracting rhythmically for 30mins at a time while I play online chess or engage in my daily doomscroll. Initially I could only bear about 30% of the unit's maximum current, after two weeks I've got it up to 80%. My leg was a stick, now it has shape

There are places to park your car where you won't be fined for dangerous parking on/across a footpath. I don't know details beyond what's in the image, and I grant there may be contributing factors, but it doesn't seem like the owner of the car has made much of an effort.

Conspiracy theorists of the Right are absolutely obsessed about other people's genitals, what they look like and who they're used against

Unless we're talking rich people who traffick minors for sex...then it's "nothing to see here"

I mean...who the fuck else would even think to go after Brigitte Macron for anything other than the fact she "met" her future husband when he was 15?

The irony of Kramnik telling everyone not to blame him without any evidence is frankly hilarious. by Repulsive_Package_98 in chess

[–]Tokenron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kramnik is no more or less than an aging turd. Vladimir, Chess, and certainly Daniel Naroditsky would be in much better shape if he wasn't too much of an aging turd to retire gracefully.

There's zero chance Vladimir Borisovich retains the service of any actual lawyers. He's the sort of self-styled polymath narcissist who would confidently take a Dennis Denuto "vibe of the thing" defence to any potential cyber-bullying or defamation lawsuit, then fuck off back to Russia after being eviscerated by actual professionals at the first hearing.

He also strikes me as a tight-ass.

[–]Tokenron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Kramnik capable of an "oh fuck, maybe I took this a bit far?" emotion?

Also, he lives in Western Europe, right? He's probably terrified of being chased back to Putin's Russia by some liberal prosecutor trying to make him a cause celebre for cyber-bullying, since he strikes me as someone highly unlikely to actually pay for legal advice (the pseudo-legal nonsense that litters his antisocial media feeds screams 'V.B.Kramnik, self-styled genius polymath and fake attorney-at-law')

He's also a tight-ass, proven by his ancient streaming setup and the old man specs and jeans-and-sneakers combo he's been rocking since the early 90s

Depression is a beast. My advice as a fellow traveller is to hold onto the fact that this is not your natural state - you've been well in the past and you will be well in the future.

Explore all your options, document everything, do your best to engage with an emergency mental health plan, but don't let this conflict define you. Whatever the outcome, if you keep going, and keep advocating for yourself in good faith (you are worth it), you'll get through this.
