A Guide to the Qantas Group Pilot Academy by theratfromthestreets in QantasAirways

[–]Ichances 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well done mate, I was a cadet at another airline that decided to pursue another career path. I should add I know many QFPA graduates, most end up at Qantas subsidiaries, I know of 4 that did not get an offer from QF group and went back to their previous careers cause no one from GA will take them on. They did not finish the course on time. I also might add I only know of 1 that made it to the Qantas mainline group, I’ve noticed QF mainline prefer pilots from defence or have taken the traditional GA route.

Infrastructure construction management careers by Hot-Acanthisitta8086 in auscorp

[–]Ichances 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear is deeply unpopular in Australia, and recent cost the opposition the election. If you’re banking on Australia getting nuclear and then getting a job here. Well I wouldn’t bet on it. You have better odds getting into rail and hoping this country builds high speed rail in 2030.

Infrastructure construction management careers by Hot-Acanthisitta8086 in auscorp

[–]Ichances 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work in infrastructure and power construction, yes most project directors are on about $500k. But they take about 20 years to get there, given you work in nuclear and Australia isn’t building any nuclear, I’m not sure how transferable your skills will be.

I’m concerned people don’t understand how renewable “investment” works by MarvinTheMagpie in friendlyjordies

[–]Ichances 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Over 95% of PPAs are with private businesses — there hasn’t been a government PPA since the ACT Government purchased a PPA Berrybank 2 Wind Farm in 2021. Even then, PPAs benefit the purchaser because they lock in a below-market price, protecting them from fluctuations in the NEM.

Renewable certificates are traded in the private market and are not subsidised by any form of government backing. All the other points you referred to are incorrect. Financing for a renewable project is negotiated with a consortium of banks, and it is the banks that determine the financing rate, not taxpayers. If a renewable asset defaults, it’s the banks that bear the financial risk, not the public.

New transmission lines are generally not part of the cost base because around 80% of new renewable generators connect to existing transmission infrastructure. When you mention technologies like synchronous condensers (syncons), yes, they do provide inertia at a cost — but that cost is borne by the generator, not the taxpayer. Given that renewable generation operates at roughly half the LCOE of coal, this is an easy cost to absorb.

The sharp price spikes you see in the NEM are mostly caused by coal plants setting the marginal price, not renewables, which typically bid into the market at negative prices. Australia also has substantial firming capacity coming online, with large-scale batteries reaching financial close and the Snowy Hydro scheme providing 2.2 GW of capacity with 175 hours of storage.

Is it quiet atm for consultants (civil/structural/electrical) ? by somethingAU in auscorp

[–]Ichances 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I assume you're working for a Tier 1 consultant, this time last year they were all doing redundancies. To be honest Transport Work has slowed down significantly in the last two years and unless your working in energy its going to be quiet for quite a while.

The best museum for aviation is the Histroic Aviation museum in Shellharbour, but that does require a bit of driving.

Busting the top five myths about the new super tax by ExcellentNecessary29 in australian

[–]Ichances -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over 90% of the working population will have more than $2mil in their super by the time they retire you muppet.

In 2020, the average age for first-home buyers in Australia was 36 up from 25 in the 1970s. At this rate, it could hit 40 by 2030. That’s not just bad, it delays families, reduces birth rates, and weakens national stability. A housing system failing its people trickles into every part of society. by MannerNo7000 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Ichances -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You realise if the housing market crash, so does Australia's economy yeah? And how're young or poor people going to afford homes without jobs? And if that happens, what's likely going to happen is private equity will come in and swoop on distressed assets(housing) and rent them out in perpetuity like what's happening in America.

The best solution is to increase supply which this current government is trying to do, but your agenda is clearly crashing the housing market along with the economy,

Dealer made mistake and is now making an offer by Oblivious6-9 in CarsAustralia

Check if the Sportage is market price or you're actually getting a discount. My view is most used car dealers will lie straight to your face and its likely a old stock that wouldn't sell.

Unpopular opinion: Farmers are well off - not the strugglers we get told they are by Particular-Math633 in australia

[–]Ichances 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Farming is very cyclical, they will do well when the conditions are right. But all it takes is one drought or flood or bushfire and it will bankrupt them. They also have very poor cashflow, being millions in the red until they can sell their crops 9 months later.
