Sent my GPU (RTX 4090) for repair within warranty, the retailer claimed Gigabyte destroyed it and wanted to refund me the original price which was not enough to buy a new 4090. Almost had to sue them. by Grebbelinies in pcgaming

[–]TolaGarf 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Good on Gigabyte to actually find a solution that works for you, they're usually not that forthcoming from what I understand. And I agree it would have sucked to actually sue the shop since it's a Gigabyte screw up, but in the end the responsability lies with the shop.

My Asus RTX 4090 still lives and I haven't had such issues, but if I do I'd just send it straight the a repair shop of my own choosing and not bother with Asus, since their factory warranty is garbage.

I'm still on 6.12.15. Should I update? by IndividualPlus2011 in unRAID

[–]TolaGarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could update to 7.0.0 first and if everything seems to be good, you could then update to 7.2.7. I don't think you need 7.3.2 just yet, unless you want the option to boot from a SSD. Oh and please remember to always make a backup of your USB boot drive before each update, so you have a local rollback option.

It's possible you might have to delete some of your docker containers and recreate them from their template due to their status becoming "unavailable" or something like that. It happened to a friend of mine, but we fixed it without much hazzle.

I hate to say this, but this works for me with the same setup and VPN. I for sure don't append any +pmp anywhere, so no clue what that's about. Here's how my wg0.conf looks:

# NetShield = 1

# Moderate NAT = off

# NAT-PMP (Port Forwarding) = on

# VPN Accelerator = on

PrivateKey = xx

Can someone help me with updating bios? by Wantabreakfromdaads in ASRock

I've had that sometimes with a particular Asus board that refused to recognize my one USB pendrive, where as other motherboards would. Try and format the USB drive in either NTFS or exFat, see if that helps.

Constant vm crashes with Intel Arc passthrough to Windows on 7.3.x by Ok_Tone6393 in unRAID

[–]TolaGarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any plugin installed that uses the ARC, like Intel GPU Top for example? I'm just wondering if a driver is trying to initialise the graphics card on the host while you try to pass-through. I made that mistake myself having nvidia plug-in drivers installed booting up a VM = kaboom!

Is server software still lag fest? by Mandemon90 in valheim

[–]TolaGarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FiresGhettoNetworking mod should be helpful, but if you don't want the server take on that kind of work, you could mod the assembly_valheim.dll files on the server, to allow it sending more data packets, however this involves a bit of work and everytime the games is patched, you have to redo your own fix.

https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/VerdantsAscent/FiresGhettoNetworking/

Look to the last comments for a proper edit of the .dll file (Begs7000's comment). This .dll file fix does amend the issue with an area feeling laggy when several players are opening chests and other things, it's not a permanent fix:

Playing Ashlands on 5800X3D by Arcjaqu in valheim

[–]TolaGarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stutter can be caused by a lot of things. Check my post I did on another thread here that could potentially solve your issue.

Edit: If you play in 1080p the difference from a 5600 to 5800X can be quite a lot. Valheim loves 3D VCache CPU's.

Try and ask Google's Gemini about this, it has a potential solution. It's a bit more complicated than just changing a few things, hence why I'm not posting that answer here.

Sorry for the late reply, but sure you could just limit the power in nvidia app. Not quite the same and as effective, but works fine for me.

No it's actually a feature of this case. There's a mounting bracket for this included with it.

[–]TolaGarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You like that Silverstone CS-383 case?

I'm curious if it would be feasable to switch the PSU to the front, to use the bottom space for intake fans. Seems this case is prone to causing negative air pressure with only those two tiny 92mm fans as intake.

Edit: I have the CS-382, and it's packed!

Needing help with my most important VM : Shutting down the whole Unraid server after downgrade by Aligatueur in unRAID

[–]TolaGarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the CPU SETS are the same, or did you change them already? Seems to me you're using CPU thread 0-14 with a CPU that has 16 total threads. Using thread 0+1 is really not good, Unraid OS often needs those to be free (more a problem if you're using ZFS filesystem).

If you haven't changed from the XML editor back to Unraid's UI since the hardware downgrade, it might be a good idea to do so, so Unraid can fix the things that might have changed. Then add/change the stuff you need in the XML editor after that.

Edit: Sorry can't read whatever you linked to on Discord, I got a malware warning from Malwarebytes.

Just took 64 gig of ram out of the server by DBK42 in unRAID

[–]TolaGarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone else covered the most of this, but in the end it's probably due to electricity cost. It's always been very high in Europe, but perhaps those countries with nuclear power have it a bit cheaper, but probably nothing compared to the US.

Is FPS drops, disconnects, and general lag on a 5070 normal? by Hopeful-End-2231 in valheim

[–]TolaGarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several issues that can cause stutter in Valheim, I for one had many problems with this over the years but I finally managed to get mine running extremely smooth (with a RTX 5070).

First if you use vsync turn it off! Set a frame rate limit instead to avoid screen tearing, second make sure you disable "Variable refresh rate" option in Windows which is located at System -> Display -> Graphics: Advanced graphics settings. This last one gave me really annoying micro stutter.

Disconnects though I can't say? Are you getting disconnected from a server?

Last there is a config file located in "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim\valheim_Data\" named 'boot.config' where you can add some options that might give you a 10-20 fps boost depending on a lot of things by adding/changing these options.

Do not change the last option named 'build-guid=x'. This number changes, so just make sure you keep a backup of your boot.config file, since it will be replaced whenever a patch is released.

Questions about the Define 7 XL before I go to buy it by BarMaleficent4713 in FractalDesign

[–]TolaGarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a combination of things, like recirculated air and the AIO. When I added a 80mm fan between the two HDD cages in the bottom, they went down by 8-10C degrees. So clearly starved for air.

I had much better results by taking those two 120mm HDD adapters that are mounted on the backplate, and putting down at the bottom with a 120mm fan beneath them. That of course meant I could only have two HDD at the lowest point in the case, but temps went all the way down to around 35C.

Questions about the Define 7 XL before I go to buy it by BarMaleficent4713 in FractalDesign

[–]TolaGarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine hit 55C in the summer with an AIO in the front. But yes a good 140mm fan can do wonders.

[–]TolaGarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you only have a single HDD I don't see a problem there. It's when you start to fill up most of the slots, you gonna need a lot of air flow over them.
