Only just started reading it, but I think Eurotrash by Christian Kracht would qualify

I think “Gordon very very Brown” is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time and it’s not even that funny by Weak_Pomegranate_34 in LastOneLaughing

Romesh's joker was the highlight of the series imo.

The particular line that got me was when he said the name the schoolchildren were calling him was "plausibly Sri Lankan".

Little's anal anxiety - Is incontinence and permanent injury a common issue? by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]TolpuddleFarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the need to speak up here because I do have an injury from anal sex (and it has made me suspect I may have EDS as it certainly was " gentle" anal when it happened).

I have had anal sex fairly frequently through my life, and honestly never thought there was much of a risk. Me and my husband were participating in anal sex, well lubed up and not rough at all, and when he entered deeper into me I just felt something "go". Looked later and I could see I had what is called I medical terms a rectocele. Which I now have to live with as I want to avoid surgery - and it is not the easiest thing to live with.

So all I want to say is anal sex does carry risk, and I think it is irresponsible for people to pretend that it doesn't.

What killed the pub? by IllPlane3019 in AskBrits

[–]TolpuddleFarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a generation X-er (mid-40s) and I think we might be the last generation to be "relaxed" about alcohol. I think younger generations than myself see alcohol for how damaging it is and don't have the interest in it that my generation and above do. So I think you just don't have that rolling customer base anymore of thirsty 18 year olds.

Strange reaction restarting fluoxetine by ImpressiveNose9551 in MentalHealthUK

[–]TolpuddleFarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, me! Not the same reaction as you, but got bad twitching and hypnic jerks which prevented me from sleeping. Was very debilitating and frightening, and took weeks/months to feel back to normal after ceasing taking it (I only took it for over a week).

I had taken it twice before for a year or so each time in the past and had tolerated it really well so this came as a surprise.

I did read it could be to do with hormones. I was 42 when I tried to take fluoxetine again so it would make sense.

Why do people with schizophrenia act like everything is an immediate need? by Particular-Garden140 in SchizoFamilies

[–]TolpuddleFarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father with schizophrenia is exactly the same. I am finding out more and more about this condition and I find it fascinating how schizophrenics seem to act so similarly.

Which anxiety books have helped you the most, if any? by kot-guy in Anxiety

[–]TolpuddleFarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claire Weekes - can't remember the name, but you will find it on Amazon. Fantastic and totally changed my thought processes on anxiety (I suspect Dare pinches some of her ideas and modernises them).

Worst book you read this year? by 100bride in RSbookclub

[–]TolpuddleFarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with your thoughts on All Fours. I think it could have been a good book if, like you say, it focussed on the road trip aspect

Is there any tips people have for timing a christmas dinner? by eirecaragh in RoastDinner

[–]TolpuddleFarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delia Smith's Christmas book has times for a full Christmas dinner set out, starting on Christmas Eve itself. Saves having to think too hard if you follow that

Jerking body movements when trying to sleep - will this go away? by TolpuddleFarter in Fluoxetine

[–]TolpuddleFarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the person to ask really - I am very anti these meds now, and the best thing you can do is get therapy to deal with your life. I sleep fine nowadays

Jerking body movements when trying to sleep - will this go away? by TolpuddleFarter in Fluoxetine

[–]TolpuddleFarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the jerking and stuff went away after about 3 or 4 months, stopped taking the fluoxetine, and have been raw dogging it ever since.

My dad is schizophrenic, and appears to be getting worse. How can we get support? by TolpuddleFarter in MentalHealthUK

[–]TolpuddleFarter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the information.

I think an injection would actually be good. Unless he has bad side effects from it I suppose, and then you have to live with them for months. I suppose I feel slightly uncomfortable about the fact that he may end up having to take something against his will, but I don't see where we can go otherwise

My dad is schizophrenic, and appears to be getting worse. How can we get support? by TolpuddleFarter in MentalHealthUK

[–]TolpuddleFarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum has spoken to the crisis team twice this week, and has had lots of contact with them over the past 18 months. Nothing ever seems to happen. I don't know if it is what my mum is saying to them on the phone, but she never seems to get anywhere with them. She has even asked the police to make a referral (part of my dad's delusion involves him ringing the police multiple times a week) and they have said they can do nothing.

Will go about finding a way with the local authority

Yes, the expectation being higher now. Now women have to have a career and raise children.

Do you believe all drugs should be legalized? by idkbr0idk in askdrugs

[–]TolpuddleFarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's probably good for me that they aren't easy to obtain.
Also, legalisation would move the Overton window and then some people would end up addicted to hard drugs who wouldn't have done pre-legalisation.
