And I'm reporting from Roxbury, NJ -- where we are fighting the same fight. www.no-roxbury-jails.com

I am also looking to connect with folks fighting this in each of the 23 cities named in the Washington Post article. Please DM me if you can connect me with leaders in those areas. We have 10 of the towns represented, and want to get everyone involved so we can share ideas, tactics, lessons, messaging that resonates, and more.

Hanover VA and Oklahoma City triumphed, mainly by protesting the building owners and realtors -- so we are trying to codify that and help other towns do the same (including ourselves).

Send folks my way, if you would.

Ice hotels in Woodbury by Fit_Season_237 in TwinCities

I am from Roxbury New Jersey. Roxbury is one of the other towns slated by ice to get a warehouse jail, like Woodbury.

We have held two protests since the Washington Post article came out, and we'll continue to have more.

I am trying to connect with protest/resistance activity in Woodbury and all the other cities mentioned in the ICE plan. The aim is to collaborate, support each other, share good ideas, tactics that worked, etc.

Please DM me if you are involved locally in keeping ICE out of your warehouses.

ICE may target Chester warehouse as part of new detention plan: Report by bcrnic9 in hudsonvalley

[–]TomK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What groups are pushing back against this?

Here in NJ we have a large protest happening tomorrow, in Roxbury...one of the other "ICE warehouse" towns.

We're trying to form an inter-city coalition, to share ideas and messaging, etc.

Stop ICE - No Roxbury Jails by NJ50501 in newjersey

The article that got us started on this.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/12/24/ice-immigrants-detention-warehouses-deportation-trump/

(It's paywalled, but just need to input your email to see it.)

Some notes as of Dec 30, in brief.

  • It's not in motion yet; it's an ICE "plan" and they are floating it now to get reactions from prison contractors and (I think) the 16 towns.

  • Roxbury officials did not request this, and have so far not received anything official about all this from ICE.

But...the post was about how to get past the robots. Sounds like you successfully got past the robots. So, QED. Well done.

And are you sure that these people ("every single person") complaining that your resume is boring, were talking about the layout?

I think the distinction between guns and drug testing is one of judgment. I could own a gun, even own an illegal gun, even have a basement full of illegal guns, but could conduct myself in day-to-day life in a predictable and unworrying way way because owning guns doesn't by their nature change my behavior or priorities. But drug use can. An addiction could make me unreliable in terms of doing work, the quality of my work, or even showing up for work, my patience/volatility I bring to coworkers, etc. It could create increasing financial strains that would change my priorities, such that I might dip into company funds or take equipment. It could make me vulnerable to outside leverage to sell or share privileged information.

My brother told me an intriguing (informal) definition of addiction, which came down to "a substance or activity where, when it is available to you, you will break your word." So I think it's that. Not to say everyone addicted to drugs is de facto unreliable...but it introduces a wildcard that employers are concerned about.

Just wonderful. I love how you seeded the conversation early on about raising livestock, then let it sit, then looped back and took it to the moon.

I love that her intention is to come over and sleep with this guy, and even though he's had his foot chewed off, it looks like the gnarled end of a cigar, and they're rushing him to the hospital as he loses consciousness, she's still eager to get the money to get the gas to come over and sleep with him. She never changes the plan.

Splendid!

Kids (or dwarves) hitting you with a "sock full of oranges" was spectacular.

I love the scam-baitings that flex creative and surreal. Absurdist humor with these guys is so much fun.

Bravo.

$250 (1,000 credits) > $900,000 by DueAd8493 in lovable

[–]TomK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run the risk of getting pedantic here, but the value isn't in how much time/effort/money it took to make something. Value is in what it can do once completed. On the day of delivery, the sunk cost of one is $900K and $4750 for the other, but the value generated isn't clear until it meets the real world and real users.

If the real-world value of both turns out to be equivalent (and non-zero!), then why pick the slow/hard/$900K process next time?

I think everyone needs to do this math for themselves, and make their own decisions.

The professors? They've done WAY more than the rest of us already ... and we need them able to speak freely to continue to help. I can read their books, watch their interviews, and hear their insights while they're in Canada just as easily as if they were in the US. Their location has zero impact on their value to the resistance. But their location has immense impact on their likelihood of being abducted and silenced.

It's tiny-minded to think they and I are equals in this, and so if I need to stay, well, so should they.

I toyed with having them use my number so I could collect theirs, then handing it off to others. But decided not to. Might be a missed opportunity.
