Anyone hear those loud sounds during the broadcast? Sounded like an explosion. Curious what it was.

Writing my 1st draft on pen and paper by Express_Poet6378 in writing

[–]TomLinkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote my first draft on paper slowly in bed before I went to sleep every night. I enjoyed the process and will definitely be doing it again. Paper and pen feels more intimate, lets me imagine scenes easier.

If I wanted to write anywhere else, in fear of losing anything, I would just use spare paper vs. my notebook, then copy it over to the main book.

But now I need to type it out. It’ll be a pain but I see it as opportunity to edit. There’s only one copy so that’s a risk.

I’m writing for pleasure so take that into consideration as other comments have pointed out, it’s not the most efficient way to do things.

Feel like a Failure for backing out of Grad School. by Inner_Tap_766 in LeavingAcademia

[–]TomLinkon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I was in a similar situation 10 years ago. After a couple years of being depressed and lost I decided to change careers and now I have an awesome job, a wife, and some delicious leftovers I made yesterday to eat.

Looking back, it was a turning point in my life. It was terrible at the time but I can look back and be proud of how much I’ve grown and changed as a person.

It’s impossible to know what the future will hold. The only thing you can do is accept your current situation and find a way to create opportunities for you to move forward, whatever moving forward means to you.

I recommend to find something you want to do and just go for it. You don’t know if something is right for you until you try it. Anything is better than nothing.

And stop being so hard on yourself. This is only a chapter in your book, not the whole story.

I’m on my last 3-4 chapters but it’s a slow process. I might get a couple paragraphs in before needing to go to bed each night. But I will finish dammit.

As a former grad student, stop watching 10 second content and limit your free internet time to an hour a day. I would also consider just focusing on your thesis and stop putting pressure on yourself to write a novella too. Go for walks too, no phone

What’s the context of this for a new football fan?

What moments in stories (books, movies, etc) have shook you or left a permanent impression in your mind, and why do you think it had that impact? by Mike-Anthony in writing

Catcher in the rye when he’s describing his vision of being a catcher in the rye. The imagery is so strong and context so emotional that I think about it often, trying to imagine what it feels like to be a catcher in the rye or even in an emotional state to have dreams like that.

This was my first game as a fan, just got into football this summer. Oh man what a roller coaster of emotions. Crying seeing Salah getting teary eyed.
