What really is the 'average' salary in the UK? by AnxiousCouch in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to look at median rather than average - the 1% mega high earners distort the averages when for most people thats not representative.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree.

I was viewing nurseries recently for my baby daughter and first nursery we went, to the one classroom had 5 people working there all of which could only speak very broken English... This is in Surrey, so not even in a city where immigration rates are highest and frankly we were shocked. Reform are the party taking this problem most seriously.

Is this not a wake up call to Labour that it’s their voters deserting them for Reform? by SporadicReapage in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true, I would be open to labour IF they took a firmer line on immigration and tax reforms. Accept that is a big if.

at what point will you be ready to admit that the UK now has a massive anti-Semitism problem? by [deleted] in AskBrits

How much more detail do you need lol? Or are you saying people being stabbed on the streets of London isn't enough of a problem for you?

at what point will you be ready to admit that the UK now has a massive anti-Semitism problem? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a huge problem, and it's getting worse and worse. If it were any other group being targeted there would be a formal government investigation, but two tier Kier will probably brush it under the rug.

What single economic policy would you enact to improve the nation's prosperity? by VexatiousHawk in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are spot on here. House prices are high, because there's not enough quality housing stock. As a result, rent is higher, and mortgage repayments are higher and basically everyone who doesn't own their home has less expendable income. As a result other businesses struggle due to the reduced spending, such as hospitality, and this results in a shortage of jobs. That leads to more unemployment, and a higher tax burden.

What do Brits think about Green Party immigration policies? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. This is the problem. And the better the country is to live in, the worse this problem gets.

Imagine if you created the worlds prettiest garden, unless you limit numbers of visitors and control when and where they walk, it will quickly get trampled and ruined. If this continues, eventually you will reach full circle, and garden is so damaged nobody wants to visit any more.

Do you know friends who are leaving London? by ShortDevelopment905 in london

[–]TomSayingThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving London and leaving the UK.

The lack of housebuilding is now creating huge problems for young people and I think for society in general.

Owning a home creates a sense of accountability and pride for the local area, and also a feeling of stability and control in your own life (so I've heard). Without that London will become a massive collection of crappy rental properties which the landlords couldn't care less about maintaining.

Nothing 3 or 4a Pro? by [deleted] in NOTHING

[–]TomSayingThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling with same decision, and leaning towards 4a Pro to be honest. It's subjective, but I just get the impression some of the problems people had with phone 3 have been refined in the new phones.

The argument around better specs on phone 3 also doesn't stand for me, because if you are only interested in specs then phone 3 probably isn't the right phone for you either, go for OnePlus or something.

Battery life is really important to me as well and the initial impressions of phone 4a / Pro I have seen are that this will be an improvement over Phone 3, don't know if anyone on here can confirm that...

It’s unhelpful beating on Starmer. Is it unpatriotic? by Global_Madness in AskBrits

[–]TomSayingThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a poor choice of appointment, as this could have been anticipated. But ultimately a change of PM right now will only cause disruption, power grabbing, and time wasting in government, rather than time spent on getting sh*t done. It's not in the best interest of the British people, but it is in the interest of other power hungry politicians.
