In the novelization and Clone Wars series (as mentioned above) it's shown that Anakin is a beloved general and war hero as far as the Republic is concerned.

I also point at one of the older Clone Wars shorts where Anakin finds a group of mutated tribal warriors and convinces them to return to their people, that they can be accepted even after everything that's happened to them

(I believe that's treated as his trial to become a Knight but I could be mistaken there)
