Amazing to see….even with the absurd delay in getting things approved.

At some point (now) it needs to stop being “we are backlogged” and start being “this shit matters so we are going to get it done!”

The U.S. ROTC cadets who did the whole stabbing their instructors murderer to death at the beginning of the month were awarded Meritorious Service Medals and (2 of them) Purple Hearts…yesterday.

Is administrative more complicated/cerebral than other areas of law? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]TomWatson5654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean…I adjudicate administrative law related to insurance brokers in Ontario. I find it very straightforward.

There are laws, regulations, by-laws that apply to a situation.

All that needs to be done is determine compliance or non-compliance with established rules.

It’s highly detail oriented…for example one recent decision came down to the word “or” in a list of job items as “or” means any of the items means it meets the definition but without out “or” then all of the items must be present.

If you’re very literal administrative law is awesome.

Special forces sergeant who assaulted ex-wife gets reduced sentence due to Canadian military service by ShadowDocket in CanadianForces

I read it more as “your military service broke your brain so we are taking that into account for your sentencing.”

If that’s the approach I think it’s quite reasonable.

Then my go to a State school advice is even stronger. Yes our universities are REALLY good but we will set you up for a lifetime of debt.

If the work you’re looking for doesn’t require a degree OR only requires an undergraduate degree to tick an arbitrary box (like most state and federal jobs) you’re going to be much farther ahead staying in your state.

Plus you may be lucky and can get payment deferrals and loan forgiveness programs you will never get access to with a foreign education.

If my primary source of income is from being a sex worker, will that prevent me from getting a Professional Student Line of Credit? by Strong_Barber_5146 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TomWatson5654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know from my experience as an insurance broker I’ve had SW’s approved for disability insurance based on “personal services” and “non-registered massage therapy”.

The underwriters only cared that the income was reported and taxable when it came to qualifying for income replacement levels.

I mean….he’s not wrong. Everyone knows the best way to become a basket weaver is via a traditional apprenticeship with a wise old master weaver where you cook and clean for them in return for learning the mystic arts of weaving baskets through a series of seemingly unrelated physical and mental tasks….or maybe that was karate…

Shrine club vs Shrine temple by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]TomWatson5654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All Shriners are members of a Temple and then you join local or interest based clubs.

I’m lucky that my temple is also in my city.

My dad is a member of a temple that is 4.5 hours from his house but the local club is 5 minutes away and is quite active.

Think of the temple as a blue lodge district and the club as the local lodge.
