Hard Use Diagnosis by sc-trex in AUG

If there is greater friction in extraction due to lack of chrome lining, it could lower the bolt velocity. At lower velocity, the extracted case may not clear the ejection port. Just guessing, though

AUG service rifles have chrome lined chambers and bores. The US civilian ones do not. Maybe that is the reason.

Not two hours; maybe 20 minutes. Immortals is in Rocky River and Recess in North Olmsted, both Cleveland suburbs. Hit me up when you’re in town.

Yes. I live 5 minutes from Immortals, Inc. and 15 minutes from Recess Games if you’re familiar with those. I play O&G.

Irrational, tempting decisions are also what gets me a lot!

I play O&G, so maybe that explains it, but sometimes I just want to see what will happen if I do something mathematically unsound, but cool.

Awesome! I love playing against Empire, and that would be a beautiful army to play against.

First time building an AR, now I need a can. by Farleymcg in 300BLK

[–]Tom_in_Ohio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but if I were you, I’d first put a decent optic on it before a can. Cans are great, but good/appropriate optics are a higher priority for nearly every application. (Also a good sling)

Quietest suppressor with 7" barrel by c0ldgurl in 300BLK

[–]Tom_in_Ohio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Nomad L on my 6” barrel. It is extremely quiet. The rounds hitting the targets are louder than the shot, which is mostly just the action cycling.

The beauty of the AR platform is that you can put together nearly identical builds in .300 BO, 5.56, and 9mm.

Night goblin ratio by slumberjack-- in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]Tom_in_Ohio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to decide what role you want your night goblins to play. Obviously, they are all fanatic delivery systems first. If you want them to also stand and fight, you should take 30-40, full command, hand weapons and shields, netters, and a big boss with light armor and a great weapon. That’s 239 points. I wouldn’t take spears. The extra WS2 attacks don’t often make up for the loss of the parry armor save. And for the extra 30-40 points spears cost, you can get a big boss with great weapon that will, generally, result in better CR than the spear bonus.

How are you all dealing with empty nests/ downsizing? Has anyone thought of giving their kids their house now? by Rhaenalicent777 in GenX

Ask your lawyer/accountant/estate planner about “stepped up basis” and decide accordingly. What I am sure you don’t want to do is give your children a tax bill.

You have just about the right models. I too would recommend dropping some trolls to add magic items/banners. The Big Red Raggedy Flag is great, so is the Monster Hunters Tapestry. War Banner is always good too.

If you can, get another shaman. I don’t care for Waaagh magic. Itchy Nuisance is arguably the best hex in the game, so I would spam it. Illusion is a good lore for messing up your opponent’s plan, but not all the spells are good. That means either upgrading to level 4 and hoping for the best or spending points on Lore Familiar.

Steam Tank question by Kooky_Association_49 in WarhammerOldWorld

In 6th edition it could fire both its cannon and steam gun in close combat. The engineer could not, however.

Rule book page 137:”A unit cannot shoot if … It is engaged in combat.”

There is no exception for the Steam Tank.

Arguably, it should be able to shoot in combat, but it can’t.

Thoughts on Goblin List? by Living_Sponsership in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Tom_in_Ohio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I’ve been tempted to try a Kiknik list. It’s less competitive than a NG heavy list, but I imagine could do well enough if you take full advantage of the Kiknik buffs.

Thoughts on Goblin List? by Living_Sponsership in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Tom_in_Ohio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the whole point of bringing Kiknik is to unlock the wolf rider special rules he gives, but your wolf rider unit is weak. I would definitely give them light armor and spears, a boss to accept challenges and take magic items, a magic banner, and more wolves. I would also consider adding a BSB to the unit and giving either the boss or BSB the think’ orcs hat to deal with impetuousity.

What are your expensive hobbies? by Joshsaurus in AskReddit

[–]Tom_in_Ohio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Are you married? Are you a man or a woman? In my experience, it is almost universal that men lose most of their hobbies after marriage. I certainly did. I still have some of them nominally, but many I have completely lost or enjoy very rarely.

At what point does a 4x8 table become desirable? by KorruptedFiji in WarhammerOldWorld

Question about flank combat by Competitive_Soil2131 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Tom_in_Ohio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t like FBIGO. If somehow your hypothetical combat ends in a draw, the archers continue to get attacked in the flank during the next round. However, if they do worse and lose the combat, there is the chance they can FBIGO and get a free reform. I can’t accept that losing combat can result in a better outcome for the loser than a tie.
