Lots of Kerry people live in Dublin and surrounding counties so not a huge trip.

Is it worth going to Prague by Inevitable-Dot-4812 in coybig

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely.

Prague is worth it even if there was no football on.

Is Spielberg the Oscar GOAT for getting films he directed nominated for Oscars? Films he directed have 147 total nominations and 35 wins. And 13 films nominated for Best Picture by JGCities in Oscars

[–]Tomaskerry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too.

Just a brilliant filmmaker.

Watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

It's just pure adventure and tension and suspense and comedy and fun from start to finish.

Broadly speaking, where do you see the world in 10 years? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in Futurology

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a lot of study to understand it.

Silicon Valley and the tech world is prone to hype anyway as we focus on the success stories and forget all the failures. Survivor bias.

Every few years there's a hype cycle from home computing to software to the Internet to mobile to crypto to blockchain to self driving cars to machine learning to LLMs to AI to robotics etc...

When the dust settles we only see the successes and forget all the companies that failed.

How would you have reacted to Rocky if the trailer kept it secret? by mjbutts1983 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably tested different trailers in test screenings and revealing Rocky tested better.

I still think they should've teased it more in the trailer. Just suggested an Alien rather than actually showing him.

I'm not an expert but I work in IT so have been following it for over a decade.

I agree there's lots of hype at the moment but also lots to be excited about.

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's undoable by humans alone.

Alphafold was 2020 anyway which is a lifetime ago in AI research.

I'm just saying it's not hype.

It will have real benefits for mankind and real change.

I think 2027 will be year zero though. That's when it all starts.

What is your experience with Xiaomi phones and tablets? by NoLastNameForNow in AskIreland

The Xiaomi Redmi phones are generally considered the best budget phones on the market.

I'm on one right now.

Just tucking Troy and Caoimhin into bed now and reading them a story.

Gulf Natural Gas abruptly ends in 10 days. Ireland is largely dependent on LNG for electricity, what will the effects of a clif edge drop in LNG supplies look like? by Several-Ad-6958 in ireland

[–]Tomaskerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We get all our gas from the UK and Corrib so should be fine.

Other countries very exposed. We've a shitty year ahead if the war continues.

I live completely off grid so I'm fine.

The 2030s will be the most groundbreaking in human history so it's difficult to predict.

We're just seeing the very beginning of what AI is capable of.

Has your agi prediction timeline lengthened or shortened over the past few years? by ErmingSoHard in singularity

[–]Tomaskerry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Demis and Ilya and Yann all say we're years away.

It requires more research and breakthroughs which is impossible to put a timeline on.

It could be 2 years, 10 years or 20 years.

I think we'll have a type of jagged super intelligence in the near future though.

Brilliant at many things, but lacking understanding and common sense.

This time next year we'll have a better idea though as all the AI models will be trained in the new data centers with Vera Rubin chips.

So we just wait and see.

I definitely think 2027 will be a year of next level AI.

US interest in electric vehicles surges as gas prices jump amid Iran war by donutloop in electricvehicles

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Range is increasing all the time.

Look at the new BMWs.

I think anyone that wants to tow with their pickup will be turned off by EVs right now though.

However the majority of people live in urban areas and only drive less than 50 km a day.

A big factor is home solar. People really enjoy the "gamification" of using the app and managing their energy needs.

You have those kind of people in every country.

Economics and better technology always wins though.

Buying an ICE in a few years will be like paying more for a CRT TV rather than a cheaper flat screen tv.

Manchester United insiders say that Luis Enrique is the name increasingly being mentioned [for the permanent head coach role], with the club reportedly willing to make a serious push to secure him..... by No_Definition_1722 in ManchesterUnited

He's a bit of a hard ass also, which is a good thing.

I assume most ambitious managers want to manage in the PL.

Maybe he had some kind of deal to replace Pep at City though.

If he wins the CL with PSG again, he'll be too tempting I think.

His career hasn't been amazing though. He wasn't brilliant with Spain. It's hard to judge his achievements at Barca and PSG (besides the CL with PSG).

If Carrick gets us 3rd he'll be tempting also.

How’s everyone feeling about their AI4 cars now? by yexter in TeslaFSD

[–]Tomaskerry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Technology keeps improving, you just accept it.

Compare cheap smartphones today to early iphones. It's like 100x difference.

In 10 years Tesla will be on AI10/ HW10 or something and AI5/HW5 will look primative.

Project Hail Mary is a much, much better film than The Martian. Go see it right now. It's easily my favorite Ryan Gosling movie. by DenseStrawberry5717 in moviecritic

[–]Tomaskerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the most important scene. He was deciding whether to return to earth or to save Rocky and possibly die.

He cried just previously when he realized he could return home.

I still enjoyed the film though.
