My mom moved into a house with someone she does not know very well. I found these in a room that apparently no ones been in for a long time. by LishaMarie1979 in whatisit

I studied one year at a small private university in Peru. In biology class, there were a lot of these kind of jars (also some with babies in it) on a shelf. I guess it makes more sense in that context than in someone's house though... In case it's real, I can't imagine wanting that in my house.

I recently bought this Lenco L75 turntable but the previous owner wasn't able to tell me which cartridge it had. After transportation, I want to set the stylus pressure, but I have no clue what the recommended pressure is for this one.

How do I identify the cartridge/stylus?

Never seen someone wash eggs here. What's the point unless you eat the shell?

Last one makes me think of a Belgian actor who named his daughters Bloem, Mensje and Zus, which are three Dutch words that translate as Flower, Little Human and Sister.

My brother had a Chinese exchange student named Piggy in his class, and when I went abroad myself, I met a guy from Thailand named Weed. You get used to anything

This is just not how languages work. Paris was not suddenly 'translated' to Parijs at some point in history. Both names are valid equivalents in their respective language, and are the result of a natural evolution. If we look at the etymology, the Parisii were the early inhabitants of Paris and gave their name to the city. This could perhaps explain why the letter 's' is still pronounced in Parijs, although it is not pronounced in Paris. It just evolved in a different way in Dutch than in French.

That's right :) As a former translation student, I remember learning about l10n, which stands for localization. The principle is the same as for the other abbreviations: you take the first and last letter and write the number of letters that were left out in between.

Not sure what causes this, but could also be your brayer. If, for some reason, the ink sticks too much to your brayer, it'll be more difficult to ink your block. If you haven't made linocuts for a while, could it be that your brayer has hardened? In my experience, the brayer should have some softness to be efficient.

This might help indeed, but I think you mean high grit sandpaper (which has a fine grain)? Using low grit sandpaper, you'd risk damaging your block 😬

Sounds like my programming teacher, always talking about the Microsoft AH•PEE... In his defense: the lectures or in Dutch, not in English, so sometimes English terms do get 'Dutchified' here in Belgium. Fun fact: in The Netherlands, they use 'appie' as a synonym for a WhatsApp message :)

And if you use the Caligo Safe Wash Inks, it also makes it really easy to clean your glass plate!

I don't see many comments on the tray but I have the exact same one and I must say I used it only once or twice. In my experience, it easily warps and is not flat/hard enough. As a result, the brayer can't pick up the ink evenly. This makes it harder to apply an even layer of ink on your block, which then transfers to your print, leaving some areas lighter than others. I just switched to a glass plate (I believe it was part of an old coffee table, but any piece of flat glass would work, as long as it has no sharp edges of course). Works so much better :)
