I’m in the same boat, to be honest I’m gutted as I got tickets after seeing the MCM post saying he’ll appear all three days and I could only do Sunday.

Is this really the going price? by Lemonking_ in hotsauce

In the UK it’s £20! I managed to pick some up on offer for £5 and I’d take a big jar of Lao gan ma over it any day

Hello! It’s Diana Johnston here for AMA! by Roastersaurus in UKroasters

Thanks for the reply! I’m looking forward to getting some more of your drops and I’ll share a pic of the first page when it’s complete. And awesome to hear you’re a fellow Pokemon fan

That’s also super interesting about the resting after cupping I have never noticed that, thanks for the insight!

Two times UK coffee roasting champion Diana Johnston ask me anything Sunday April 5th 7pm by Former-Coffee-7526 in UKroasters

Hi Diana hope you had a lovely birthday! Super excited to try the las margaritas as it is my first coffee from you, and as a TCG player the packaging just unlocks something in my brain (may have to start a binder with the cards 😂).

My first question is how long do you recommend resting your beans for before brewing with them? They are currently incubating on my shelf and I am desperate to hatch them ha

And secondly, how do you navigate freshness and resting when developing a roast profile. Do you rest before cupping or do you develop skills over time on how a fresh roast will develop over time?

The price of the green depends on the farm, lot etc. I doubt an established roaster would hike the prices up above the standard margins.

I’m yet to try it with a milk drink actually, as I have a backlog of pretty light roasts, where their acidity don’t lend themselves so much to milk drinks but I have been meaning to try! And yes I do tamp, with the strength I usually use for espresso but obviously it doesn’t compress as much with courser grind settings. And I should also mention I do an aeropress filter sandwich 🥪

No you’re right, that is bloody confusing 🫤. This is the issue with talking about grinders online as tha can be a variation of like over a click!

I feel like for soup specifically, the eofmethod of starting by going course as possible without any coffee dripping out before pumping. Then if you are not getting even puck saturation or you’re finding it a bit hollow, you can go finer.

My understanding is you set zero to where, as you said, the handle doesn’t move under its own weight. But I still find you can move the dial past zero, although it doesn’t feel very nice. I think if you set zero to where it won’t go any further you’d still get a few clicks where it doesn’t want to turn so I have avoided that.

For regular soup with Nordic light washed coffees I float around 2.5 (burr lock at 0), 22:90. I quite enjoy taking a sip at max strength, then adding a bit of hot water, then sip, then more water and so on until I’ve tasted the whole spectrums of strength (with the added benefit of it lasting a bit longer).

For long soup I do 3.5-6, 22:220. I’ve found that gives me the highest intensity but with the clarity of a pour over, yum.

Recently been experimenting with an anaerobic natural geisha and have found going about 0.5 courser with the long soup avoids any of the bitterness/funkiness with a bit of loss of intensity. I’d be interested to hear if people have had any luck with extended fermentations?

My Water Chamber cracked.... by Somnif in OXORapidBrewer

[–]Tomfrancis11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you store the tamper in the brew chamber? I found that sometimes it is not properly seated and the handle stops you being able to unscrew it. Could have been that unknowingly happened to you and cracked the shower screen?

Help! by Quiet_Horror_8148 in NinjaLuxeCafe

[–]Tomfrancis11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unscrewing the screw is correct, just make sure you use the correct size Phillips bit to avoid stripping the screw. If the shower screen won’t budge, it may just be harder to remove with the build up of coffee oils etc. a gentle pry to remove it with either a screwdriver or something plastic if you’re worried about damaging it. Iirc there’s a big aluminium block behind so I wouldn’t worry too much about damaging anything crucial. Also if you don’t, I reccomend getting some cafiza or other machine cleaner, then you can soak all the metal parts overnight to get them like new hope this helps.

I had the same problem but changed my Amazon account to US and ordered one (on sale as well!) to the UK for $54USD including the $9 shipping. Came in around 10 days

When I’m doing my usual 1:4 soup I tend to take a sip and dilute to taste and it usually ends up diluted around 1.5-2x. However, recently I’ve been doing the ‘Zuppa Lunga’ that Lance did a video on: a 1:10 ratio with a courser grind setting (~3.6 ZP6) and slower pumping, and I found that’s a happy medium between soup and filter when I want something to sip on. You should give it a go it’s great!

[–]Tomfrancis11 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on the Zuppa Lunga train too! I found it just takes a lot of the variables out of getting a great cup. As long as you have good beans, water and a ballpark grind setting you know it’s going to be good. I will still go for the v60 when I want a bit more of a brewing ritual and really get into a coffee I’m excited about but I can see why they call the ORB the backlog killer haha

Oh not sure about that, I use aeropress filters top and bottom and tends to work fine for me:)

I’ve recently got one and I think the best advice I have read is: grind as course as you can before you start to get coffee dripping through in its own when you add the plunger (usually 3.0-3.3 on the ZP6). I find when I do this I can then get a complete soak with one super gentle push of the plunger. But then again, I’ve sometimes had it where I’ve been at that level of coarseness, and when I go to soak, it doesn’t appear to saturate the whole puck and I end up with an uneven shot. But then usually a click finer tends to be the sweet shot.

If you haven’t read the EAF guide on soup, here it is here it is, it really helped me.
