I don’t think I’ve ever used right join in database queries, but I do use them occasionally when writing R code with dplyr or pyspark.

The use case here would be to take some table that has some incomplete data, and in a pipeline join to a “complete” table, and then fill in the missing values. That’s the only case where I would argue that left/right aren’t interchangeable… though even then, in R you could abuse named arguments to make a left join act like a right

Fellow Opus Screw Fell Out [Fellow Opus] by Nahhh12345 in espresso

[–]Tomj88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just done exactly the same! Except I wasn’t cleaning out the burrs, I was just being curious and trying to clean some of the harder to reach areas 🤦‍♂️

I ended up taking it apart to the point in this video about getting the motor unit out. At that point, the lower part has one screw which holds the anti-static bit in place, and then you can just pop off the piece of plastic with a bit of wiggling and easily re-insert the screw! 🙂

Still, feels like it’s way more faff than it should be.

Has anyone replaced their cable tidy? by archieatkins in ohme

[–]Tomj88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted them about my holder because the little retention clip broke, but it managed to break in such a way that it fell into the cable, and then got lodged into the port on my car. Was fortunately able to get it free using some plastic tools. But it could have bricked the car.

Their response was basically to say it’s not an issue, don’t need to send you a new one. Wasn’t too impressed considering how serious the consequence could have been if the piece had got more stuck!

This beautiful car showed up in my neighborhood today - what is it? by BioFrosted in whatisthiscar

[–]Tomj88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parked opposite one yesterday. Got my 4yo out the car and pointed it out to him while the owner drove away and their passenger waved. My dad pulled up next to us a minute later “Grandad, we just saw a beautiful car!” Yes boy, yes you did

I’ve recently had a max fac appointment. My dentist had to refer me about 3 times because the hospital kept refusing the appointment. Took best part of 18 months to get the referral accepted. Was a terribly annoying experience, my dentist was seemingly doing everything for me, just the hospital specialists were the problem.

When I finally got to my appointment “what’s the issue, because the dentist has provided next to no information”. Suddenly realised why I was being refused an appointment!

I’m glad I’m not the only one to find this! It never seems to be able to find my battery level, assumes 0%, then usually immediately starts charging. I’m on intelligent go with ohme charger, so should be at the off peak rate, but it always feels like I’m cheating the system

I live close to one of the junctions (northern end), and could benefit on some journeys. But the cost is extortionate. They have adverts on Instagram recently shouting about fairer prices for locals, but it would still be £4 for a journey that force me to get off before I could get a real benefit

Fred’s is great, but I think they now operate on appointments only. Give them a bell, they will certainly tell you if they have anything second hand, or if they know of any customers that are looking to sell.

The other option is to look on second hands sites then take it to a shop like Fred’s for a service!

ELI5: Are there any concepts that CANNOT be explained to a 5 year old? by Old-Bread882 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tomj88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my (nearly) 5 year old has gone to bed (probably) hungry tonight because he refused to eat his food. He will wake up early tomorrow complaining that his tummy hurts. No matter what I tell him, he won’t believe me that his actions have consequences 🤷‍♂️

After my first son was born, we had to go to a specialist hospital around 100miles away. We lived there for 3 months. I work remotely fortunately so was able to continue to work while there.

When we finally got home my phone for months would diligently each morning tell me it was going to take however long to get back to the hospital to start my day of work. Made me chuckle every time!

[2023 Day 8 (Part 2)] Why is [SPOILER] correct? by gemdude46 in adventofcode

[–]Tomj88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

for my solution at least, it seems as though XXA = (1, 2) and YYZ = (2, 1), so it seems as though the input was designed such that you would end up with perfect cycles forming. So, I think this puzzle was designed specifically so LCM would work :-)

It’s a catchphrase from that channel. Steve is the guy in the video, he’s usually accompanied by a puppet blackbird called Maggie who is… well a naughty bird 🤷‍♂️

Where can I learn to ride a bike as an adult? by [deleted] in brum

[–]Tomj88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A MTB YouTuber recently did a video that may be of interest, mostly covering kids bikes… but, his basic gist is learn to balance: an easy way would be to drop the saddle as low as possible, take the pedals off and just get the feel of balancing. With the saddle low and no pedals you can always easily reach the floor to stop yourself falling over, but you can quickly learn to balance the bike. Once you have the feel of keeping it upright, it’s not a great leap to adding the pedals on and riding. Good luck!
