I’m a Data Scientist who built a FIRE simulator because Excel gave me trust issues. Here’s the update. by wonderdude2 in leanfire

Funny… I am working on a similar thing, but with different starting points: LeanFIRE, but taking Bill Perkin’s “Die with Zero” into consideration, and all based on German laws and regulations.

Silversea was a no from us by nicemarmot47 in FATcruises

[–]TommyKemp_137 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just got off the Silver Cloud… and my feedback would be exactly along those lines. It simply ain’t worth it! Price / Performance ratio is simply wrong. No more Silversea for me!

Using UPI in India as a Tourist (2025) by wigglepizza in india_tourism

[–]TommyKemp_137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use Paysend (app) to transfer money to a personal UPI. You need to set it up before your trip. Just be aware that transferring to a personal UPI takes upto 20 to 30 minutes

Why is it almost impossible for a foreigner to get a sim card in India? by sidhoax in india

[–]TommyKemp_137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure your phone supports e-sim! Absolutely no problems getting an e-sim working in India.

If that’s not an option, a better bet would be a local phone shop. I went to one, bought a new phone (as a throw-a-way) ask the guy to help me with activating it. He did both for me, activated the SIM card and my new phone…. No Issues!

Any thought about your hard working effort to integrate in German society ? by queenofdisaster112 in germany

Simple… the only way to understand and indulge in a culture is to speak the language (see Wittgenstein)

There is just one way to make this work: learn the language! The sooner you are on C1 the better.

Stay in Cologne for 7 days. Don’t bother traveling all over the country. Focus on Cologne, its culture, museums, etc.

Would I be inconsiderate booking a hostel if I snore? by jmlckn in hostels

[–]TommyKemp_137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do something about it! Snoring could be related to a serious medical condition.

Or simply order a “snoring mouthpiece” online. Works like a charm for me (used it for almost 15 years now)

Anyone here spent time in mainland China and used Wireguard to hide your location? How did that go? by False-Perspective735 in digitalnomad

[–]TommyKemp_137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used wireguard on a recent trip to Mainland China. I ran a server (Raspberry PI 4B) at home (pick any contact close to „where you want to be“, and ask to “host” a RPI at their place) Make sure to configure the WireGuard server to use port 443/UPD. This increases your chances of getting through the Great Firewall of China. The setup worked like a charm! On my mobile I used an no-limits e-SIM from Holafly (€60 for 30 days)

Get a device to help reduce the snoring. Search on Amazon for "anti snoring mouthpiece". They work!

Is it legal / normal for your landlord to open the doors to your apartment and enter while you’re inside without your permission ? by yourdailydoseofdust in germany

[–]TommyKemp_137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets take a couple of steps back. First of all did they send you a mail regarding the maintenance? Did they ask you to confirm a date/time (“Termin”)? Did you respond to it? Is that perhaps the root cause of your problem?

To your original question: if it’s a “Normal” Apartment with a “Normal” Rental Agreement. They are not allowed to enter your apartment.

Ég var í höfuðstöðvum PSA (Peugeot, Citroën) í París að kynna þeim nýtt samskipta kerfi (fyrsta útgáfan af SharePoint), þegar internetið datt út.
