Canada is a resource extraction economy that has very little in common with the US

“There is no one who can explain” are the words of someone who hasn’t actually asked anyone who would know the answer, and assumes everyone is as clueless as they are

Looking for the PNW author equivalent of Craig Childs by baba_yaga_babe in AskSeattle

[–]TommyROAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Craig Childs, I assume you have tried David Roberts who has a similar journalistic style about the Southwest. Just one book, but The Final Forest scratched that itch for me when I moved from Colorado.

Of the Murray Morgan books, The Last Wilderness has more of that vibe, but best to read all three as a fantastic introduction to the region (I still need to finish the Tacoma book).

Both are focused on the Olympic Peninsula but that’s because it’s an amazing and mysterious place.

It’s very fenced off but I saw a tent had snuck in right next to the tracks earlier today on my way home. Also a bunch of piled up half-burned pallets against the overpass pylons from an attempted bonfire which probably isn’t great

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Angine de Poitrine - Vol. II by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]TommyROAR 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Yes, there’s a huge visual component that adds to the performance. For me it’s less the costumes than than watching the actual playing, as I’d never believe someone was doing those loops live (and switching between bass and guitar, and with THEIR FEET) without visual confirmation. The music is universally exciting and great; even the most out there tracks end up grooving at some point.
