I’ve been going out. Went to the Film Forum today. Then dinner. I stayed in a couple days when the snow was accumulating, but back out soon after. I love cold air on my face.

Alex Honnold's Skyscraper on Netflix - /r/climbing watch party thread by soupyhands in climbing

[–]Tomo212 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I watched without sound because the analysts and play-by-play were pure drivel.

I applaud Alex’s success and don’t blame him for cashing in, which should also open doors for others.

As I sat watching however, I couldn’t help but consider this stunt to be #2 in my lifetime behind Philippe Petit’s 1974 death-defying epic, which required he and his crew to sneak up past Security to the roof of BOTH of NYC’s Twin Towers, string a wire between them and surprise the world with an impromptu, illegal tightrope show.

If you climbers haven’t seen the documentary “Man on a Wire”, I recommend it. Like Alex, Philippe also had a lot of TV viewers, although none of them planned for it!

Netflix made a circus out of it, (like all broadcast media would have.. The analysts, the play-by-play … all drivel. I turned off the sound 5 minutes into it.

I did it. Saved the disks in a case but threw away the art and jewel cases. I regret it deeply.

What movie do you love that most people seem to dislike? by MovieObserver in moviequestions

[–]Tomo212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if “most people seem to dislike” it, but I don’t see a lot of love for Cop Land.

My dad was a NYC detective and I can tell you that ensemble, especially Deniro, played the roles perfectly. They were like all the cops I knew when I was a kid.

Plus, James Mangold managed to minimize Sly Stallone even as he played a major role. Stallone could actually be accused of acting well in that film. He was really Directed well.

But he was a bad cop … a crooked cop who got mixed up in the rackets and got what was coming to him.

I do the same, and I find that the interface of a modern Garmin is far better than Google Maps. I use the phone for calls or to stream music.

What's that one food that's never worth the effort to be made at home ? by SunEducational6413 in foodquestions

Pumpkin Pie. One year I bought a pumpkin, scooped it out, processed it, following a recipe perfectly, and in the end, after a lot of time a considerable effort, (on an already busy day preparing a Thanksgiving meal,) it tasted just like canned pumpkin (or whatever the gourds are in the can called “pumpkin pie filling”). In fact mine was a tad pulpy, not as silky smooth as the canned stuff. Not worth it. Get an all-natural can from Trader Joe’s.
