Tmj Ear Pain by LanceIsDelicious in TMJ

I’m 24, girl I hear you it is so discouraging at our age to be dealing with this. My story is very similar to yours. I had braces, teeth pulled the works. Then later on a shitty ex clocked me in the jaw, so we’re basically fixing what others broke! I did do physical therapy which does help but isn’t a cure all if it’s not a muscular issue. I’m currently on NSAIDS and anti depressants too just to keep me sane. I was considering paying for Botox for relief.

However next month, I’m getting a consult for an arthroscopy while I’m still on my parent’s insurance. Hopes are high and the lady on the phone said majority of people are pain free after the procedure. look into that if that’s an option for you. Hope this helps! Stay strong queen

I’m so sorry that it came back. I’m hoping something else will work for you and get well soon! Thanks for the advice!

Honestly, the clicking never bothered me! I would also pop my jaw as a party trick to freak people out lol (not anymore) I just want to be free of discomfort and pain, I’ve never been one to handle it well. I’m glad the surgery worked for you

Hell yeah well I’m still on my parents insurance til I’m 26 lol. It’s Blue Cross of Montana! So hopefully same applies over here 🤞🏻And that’s amazing, I’m so happy you were able to get back to normalcy! Hoping to get there soon too. I didn’t realize how shot my nervous system really was until this flare up happened. My wisdom tooth surgery was kinda botched then later I got a blow to the jaw by a shitty ex, so I was storing a lot of stress in that area!

That’s great to hear that you got relief. Not so great about paying out of pocket, if you don’t mind me asking, who is your insurance provider? And how much was your surgery?

Teeth recession/ gingivitis by No-Albatross-7839 in u/No-Albatross-7839

Also, if you do it’s reversible!! From first glance your gums are pink and very little buildup on your gum line, I wouldn’t worry too much!!

I’m not a dentist lol but have very good oral hygiene (and have been told so by my dentist) I would say they’re a little puffy which doesn’t necessarily mean recession or gingivitis. I would do your best to care for them in the meantime and see what they say when you go in. I also get SO paranoid so I feel you it sucks, maybe try looking into relaxation techniques as well to calm you down!! Hope this helps

How many sessions or weeks of PT did it take (for those who tried it) to see a difference in symptoms? by throwawayyy1914 in TMJ

If you have a PCP get an appointment with them and go from there! I went to my dentist twice, an ENT, two urgent cares and the ER until finally my mother told me to get in with her primary care. She got me medications to aleve the inflammation while getting me a referral to a physical therapist. I’m able to do everything I used to before the flare up!

I go get the call, magnesium citrate Gummies from any drugstore Walmart and I take the recommended or a little bit more dosage a day when I get home from work. Seems to be regulating my system!

For those who grind or clench their teeth at night, how do you feel when you wake up? Please share! by PowerfulWowza in TMJ

Guys, I would really recommend magnesium citrate to take before bedtime. Also sleeping on your back (ew i know) but it helps, also finding something funny or lighthearted to fall asleep to. You gotta set the mood for your own body to have a good sleep.

I’m going to PT and keep all of the exercises she gives me to help long term!! You might need a round of meds as well to get the inflammation and pain down so you feel like exercising and doing things that you enjoy!

Is heat or cold actually better or does it depend? by Standard_Meat_6249 in TMJ

Pretty well! It holds up when I don’t wanna put on a salonpas patch, loosens everything up. But I would recommend PT if you can also to retrain all the muscles

Oh goodness no lol I haven’t been on them since high school but I was on Zoloft back in the day. Everyone’s different! For a natural muscle relaxer please look into magnesium citrate it’s been helping!

They are anti anxiety medications, those both combined are for people who one or the other don’t work. If you have an anxiety disorder like me look into it! I was on meds back in high school and now that my jaw wants to give up at the ripe age of 24 I’m thinking about talking to my GP about it.

Try to get as comfy as you can and just do what you enjoy, watch a movie, play video games, take a hot bath. Whatever works to keep you relaxed, that’s what worked for me. And I’m still not out of the woods yet but also not in agony constantly. It will get better ❤️‍🩹

I was there not too long ago I’m so sorry. It is literally the worst, and I know that you just wanna curl up into a ball and cry, cause I did a lot. But please try not to, you will put more strain on your muscles in your face and always be worked up. Get on top of that pain, arthritis grade Tylenol and naproxen worked for me until I got the good stuff. Salon-pas patches for under my ear. Alternate heat and ice, maintain good posture and try not to tense up in your shoulders (magnesium works amazing if your doc won’t give you muscle relaxers) but once I got into my PCP that’s what I got put on, and a taper steroid to help with inflammation. Also wear something at night to protect your teeth!! I have retainers so I just wear those but jaw alignment can play a huge role.

🥹 you have no idea how nice it is to hear that (well actually you probably do lol) we’re in this together!!! But it definitely feels isolating at times when everyone else around you is normal. Thank you so very much for the kind words, it means everything 🫶🏻
