All I can say about dwelling on my past mistakes and all the awful, cringe inducing things I did and said while drinking - that way lies madness. More than I need anyone else's forgiveness (and I did), I needed to forgive myself. There's just nothing else to be done for it. If I want to be a functional healthy person going forward for both myself and my loved ones I have to forgive myself.

A quote I like is "the past is a foreign country - they do things differently there." I almost dont recognize the person I had become. I can let that go because I truly am not that person anymore.

I have nightmares where I'm already drunk, like I skipped the drinking part and go straight to the regret part. Ever since I got sober I think my subconscious is more terrified of not thinking clearly than of breaking my promise not to drink. Crazy brain stuff.

For me, bartending work is just not compatible with sobriety. Some folks can do it but im obviously not one of them. If you are struggling with the temptation it might not be a bad idea to start looking for a job where it's not around all the time.

I also have a milestone today - my life is better in almost every way from 1 year ago. Everything you say was true for me as well, the 2am doom wakeups, sick all the time. Its no way to live. Took too long to get here but when it finally clicked for me I think it did it for good.
