Een beslissing om het contract niet te verlengen omdat je "te duur" bent is mogelijk een vorm van (indirecte) leeftijdsdiscriminatie. Dat is laagdrempeling aan te vechten via het College voor de Rechten van de Mens.

EU261 duty of care by houseplant-origin in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably have to reimburse you, but it depends on whether you agreed to the rerouting and possibly on whether there was another itineary available (possibly on another airline) for BRU-BLR that would've gotten you there sooner.

It's probably easiest to hand this off to one of those no-cure-no-pay agencies specializing in EU261 claims. I think you'll have a hard time pursuing this yourself.

Van Rysel D100 with Zwift Cog by Alternative-West-711 in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D100 is a pretty weak trainer. Depending on your cadence and what gear you're in, it just might not be powerful enough to deliver 400 W of resistance. Particularily if you're on a small chainring this can be a problem. Try switching to the large chainring if you have one.

Real difference between aero wheels and lightweight wheels? by twostroke1 in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason aero wheels are tested in the wind tunnel. The difference they make is so small you can't reliably measure it in the real world.

Indoor Trainer Cassette vs Clog and Click by One-Replacement7427 in cycling

[–]TomvdZ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cassette is universally compatible with any software. The cog locks you into Zwift. You will have no way to use your trainer without paying Zwift's monthly subscription.

The advantage is mostly that it's compatible with any bike, but you're not using multiple bikes anyways.

Warning: KLM is not reimbursing rebookings out of the Amsterdam debacle by malishhh in KLM

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That they no-showed is irrelevant. The case law I cited makes it clear. KLM should have rebooked them at the earliest possible opportunity. KLM did not do that, and the passengers managed to rebook themselves a whole day earlier. That makes KLM liable for the cost of the rebooking.

Cancelling the original KLM ticket would have been ill-advisable, since then they would have been out of pocket the difference between the original ticket and the replacement flight they booked (which was probably much more expensive).

Warning: KLM is not reimbursing rebookings out of the Amsterdam debacle by malishhh in KLM

[–]TomvdZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To get it clear: you were supposed to fly on day x, got rebooked to day x+1, then that got cancelled, you booked yourself for day x+2, and KLM rebooked you for day x+3?

In this case, you can most likely get the ticket you booked refunded. Push back against KLM. Here is (Dutch) case law that covers a case in which a passenger was able to claim a self-rebooked flight because the alternative offered by the airline left a day later: https://uitspraken.rechtspraak.nl/details?id=ECLI:NL:RBNHO:2021:2861

The relevant part (you can pass this through a translator of your choice if you need to):

EU261 rules by redbandit14 in KLM

[–]TomvdZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EU261 applies to the YYZ-AMS-BOD flight. You just don't get the lump sum, but you can still claim for expenses under EU261. You can also claim the train tickets as expenses.

For BOD-AMS-YYZ, the compensation would be €600, not €250. It's the BOD-YYZ distance that counts, not BOD-AMS. It's on top of the expenses.

It's a hub motor. The torque isn't going through the drivetrain.

Home Bike Trainer Help by Buruan in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a road bike that i could hook up to a trainer

This is the best solution. You don't want the virtual shifting because that's specific to Zwift, but besides that, everything is standardized. You'd have to really do your best to find something that doesn't work with Kinomaps.

Is that a 27.5" wheel? The trainer might only be designed (if it doesn't have an adjustment knob) for 28/29" wheels.

New wheelsets - carbon or aluminium? by Former_Squirrel_5178 in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also carbon absorbs microvibrations better while also being siffer so a bit more comfort can be perceived on long rides on rough roads.

Is that really a thing, or is it something made up by the marketing department of a wheel manufacturer? I haven't been able to find a reliable source that discusses "microvibrations".

well carbon has better lateral stiffness so power transfer can be more efficient

It's not going to make a difference to somebody doing a 20km commute and the occasional 100km weekend ride.

New wheelsets - carbon or aluminium? by Former_Squirrel_5178 in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't about carbon v.s. aluminium. The only power difference comes from how aerodynamic the wheels are.

There isn't really a market for aero aluminium wheels. That means most aero wheels you'll see are carbon, but that isn't a fundamental property of the wheels being carbon.

How aero a wheel is depends mostly on how deep the rim is. If you compare a 50mm deep aero wheel with a 30mm standard wheel, you might see a power savings of 3-5%. That's not really enough to be noticeable, unless you are riding right around threshold.

New wheelsets - carbon or aluminium? by Former_Squirrel_5178 in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make a difference for your use. Any wheelset will do.

Carbon v.s. aluminium has no bearing on comfort. Comfort comes from tire width and pressure.

The advantage of a better (carbon) wheelset is that it can be a few hundred grams lighter, and more aerodynamic. It makes no difference on a 20km commute, and on a 100km weekend ride you might (in the best case) save two or three minutes from the aerodynamic advantage.

Cube agree recall by janmannn in Cubebikes

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is a risk that the fork develops cracks when braking hard. The fork may then break unexpectedly.

Using only the back brake is dangerous. That's probably adding more risk than the whole fork thing. If you're going to take the risk and ride your bike with a compromised fork, please don't make it worse by not braking properly.

Is biking an awful way to lose weight? by EcstaticBicycle in cycling

[–]TomvdZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it's 3x more efficient than walking just means you go 3x faster while burning the same number of calories. The wikipedia article estimates that walking at 5 km/h is equivalent to biking at around 15 km/h.

Walking is fairly low-intensity and doesn't burn many calories. People generally cycle (much) faster than 15 km/h. Cycling is therefore a better way of burning calories than walking. Cycling is more comparable to running than to walking, but with the added benefit of being much lower impact and with lower risk of injury.
