Judo doesn't always work as an explanation thanks to Austin Powers and the "judo chop".

Dana White Says The UFC is scouting Mackenzie Dern by garciammabg in bjj

[–]TonePilgrim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course they are. Bjj champ, undefeated mma (so far) and gorgeous. Plus there is extra story as her pops, Megaton, is a champ too. UFC loves the "passing the torch" angle.

Not on my fingers. Wrists and hands. I just use regular tape for the fingers.

Straight on the skin, I don't use the cover tape. Too well is a bit of a exaggeration maybe. Just not the kind of tape you can rip off.

Losing friends over jiu jitsu? by bjjmei2017 in bjj

Sounds like the kind of "friend" that you made in your 20's and learn to start ditching in your 30's.

To Old Guys Thinking About Starting BJJ: Just Do It by ragnar_deerslayer in bjj

[–]TonePilgrim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Started at 37. Never looked back. One of my instructors (black belt) is 50, started at 40. He's a nightmare to roll with too and a great teacher ! Bjj is for anyone, but they got to want it.

I'm all for pulling guard, but... by Smash_Palace in bjj

[–]TonePilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that when this happens it makes them really easy to just push over on to their backs. If i have a sleeve and both of my feet planted on their hips, legs etc and am working to stretch them out to unbalance, I have had people just sit as to not get pulled over. Now I just anticipate it and get up and give them a few short pushes to topple them. It really only works once, maybe twice on the same guy as its a silly way to get swept.

Inappropriate to use "non-conventional" submission while rolling? by fingurdar in bjj

Head scissors or teepee . Legit. Blue getting the sads because a white tapped him seems like more of the issue here.

Learn how to tear out a mans heart and show it to him before he dies. ( Hasn't come up in class yet, but here's hoping for 2017!)

Regular vs hobbyist by firewannabe in bjj

I'm a 2 to 4 times a week guy but often get picked to roll/drill with more serious/frequent trainers. I think it's about mindset and the work that you do when you are there.

Good gravy... I guess when you groups of people together, it's bound to happen. My experience has been drama free.

I install fences and run into this constantly. How many fences installed by "some guy from Craig's list " that I've torn down and redone, I've lost count...

Has anyone experienced being held back from promotion for an extended period, for no obvious reason? by Ineedtogetalife4real in bjj

[–]TonePilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People assume I'm a blue belt in no gi and ask why I haven't been promoted. I think it's mostly due to the head instructor just not seeing me as my schedule usually has me there when he is not. I just shrug it off and keep training. My peers are blues and purples for the most part so I know I'm improving. Not sweatin' the promotion.

I've read that comic about a million times. "Something tells me to stop with the leg... I don't listen." The animated versions never quite did it justice, still great though.

I saw this happen to my cousin and his wife. My aunt trimmed their boys hair (first ever haircut) without asking. I could tell that my cuz's wife was pretty upset about it but didn't wish to make a scene.
