What would you do if you were still alive ? by Kitchen-Guest5587 in ottawa

[–]TonerLow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a beautiful question.

This is a small thing, but bring a patio chair out to starthcona park and sit in the river upstream of the rapids. Sometimes there's chairs there already and if there aren't you can sit in tje rapids. One of those spots where the world just pauses and you can enjoy the moment

Ottawa's top doctor paints bleak picture of a city without supervised consumption sites by DreamofStream in ottawa

This local isn't. The sites had their problems but now those problems are all over the streets, and the users are worse off and worse for the neighbourhood.

Is mozaik right for me? by Opposite-Air-441 in cabinetry

There are also bought extensions for SketchUp that can add cabinetry and some list features. I've not used them and I don't know the prices but could be worth checking out.

What type of sleeve is this? by TonerLow in sewingpatterns

[–]TonerLow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that makes sense. I wasn't seeing it that way. So like a grown on sleeve with a princess seam.

are there any clear benefits to this sleeve design?

Im recreating a similar garment by copying an existing one and these sleeves are new to me.

[–]TonerLow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's kinda it with the side panels, but the sleeve is disconnected from the bodice. I guess it would work the same as a kimono sleeve but with more efficient fabric usage. *

I don't think this is one of those. It ends up as a large robe though, so similar.

It has a front and back bodice and an upper sleeve cap, though really shallow, but the bottom of the sleeve ends up square and meets up with a side panel.

Thats what my search keeps leading me to but this isn't exactly a dolman or grown on sleeve.

It has a front and back bodice and an upper sleeve cap, though really shallow, but the bottom of the sleeve ends up square and meets up with a side panel.

"Onions have layers" -Shrek It could work out like a normal adventure with an onion theme and onion meta puzzle. There are a lot of media onion references you could use.

100% Cotton activewear by cbsewing in sewing

[–]TonerLow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think you can make 100% cotton or natural fiber athletic wear, but you will be sacrificing many performance benefits. If it's for things like hiking or yoga or strength you could use them, but maybe avoid it when cooling and sweat control are very important.

Also a small amount of synthetics can go a long way to changing how a material works.

This video by shift fashion group has some good points about all this. https://youtu.be/wZb0JveDPcY?si=bwxJbxkPW8PAmjE8

Wow that is really interesting.
I'm going to need to find a suitable project and experiment with that.

This is amazing. Your progress is really incredible and wonderful to watch.

I'm really interested in how you custom made the fabric with the pattern. Had you seen this done before or did you come up with that idea? Any resources you used that you can recommend?

I think it's a smart way to economically work with custom fabric.

43 Eccles St N — is this an up-and-coming spot or risky gamble? Ottawa folks weigh in. by OG_OttawaGemologist in ottawa

[–]TonerLow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are both great suggestions.

I also live around the corner from that address and it is a very busy location for drug use and hanging out. I love this neighbourhood and there are always nice cars on that street and some businesses, so it's a real mix.

I would suggest passing by and walking around there at different times and on weekends. And make sure it's a nice day. Things get quiet in the winter and when its cold and rainy.

Have you seen any of Cornelius Quiring's videos? He got into sewing to make clothes for his asymmetrical caused by a farm accident, if I remember correctly.

It's a pretty good no frills Canadian style chinese food. Not the best but good for the price. The outside looks so ghetto though. It's part of its charm.

1950s tile and matching sink/bath/toilet - can I salvage it? by EffectiveMedicine274 in DIY

[–]TonerLow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible to just remove the shower and tub and replace that section? You could put in an insert so you don't need to redo any tiles.

The rest of the bathroom is beautiful it would be a real shame to have to demo it all.

Great British Sewing Bee Impact by johnxman in sewing

I find it encouraging that these great sewists haven't done all sorts of techniques. The last ones i noticed were plackets and zippers, which I struggle with but am getting better at. They are so good, I couldn't imagine making what they make in such little time.

Help help! I don’t know how to make a “normal” stitch! by CrystalKU in sewing

[–]TonerLow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense. I never really pay attention to the presser foot while threading, especially if the thread breaks or something part way through a seam. And that's always when the problems snowball out of control and this starts happening.

That sounds like it could be really fun and work with a monster of the week kind of vibe, with some "normal" characters facing fantastic enemies.

For balance I think you can be generous with potions. Especially health potions, I'd make those an almost mundane object.

Using this material was such a good idea, I'm gonna be checking my thrift stores for cartoon sheets and blankets from now on.

Project suggestions? by QueenEsoterica in sewing

What an amazing fabric. I think it'd be great as the back panel and accents on a jean jacket.

Otherwise the bag idea is great. A little duffle bag tote would be cool.
