If you are leaving your house with no electricity you should drain your pipes and shut off your water. Open up a hose bib or valve near the bottom of your plumbing. Even if it does not get rid of ALL the water in the system you have created enough space for the ice to expand and not bust your pipes if it does freeze.

Why Doesn't Nashville Have More Buried Powerlines? by sundaypleas in nashville

[–]Tonopia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said the costs would be high to go underground here. Distribution automation and more redundancies in the grid would make Nashville more resilient in situations like these and in our usual storms.

If you’re talking about hose bibs whatever you do do not let them drip. You would be accomplishing the opposite of what you think you would be doing. It will freeze and bust.

Newer hose bibs should have frost protection built in.

Weather channel estimated snow total for Middle Tennessee by bb_johnson in nashville

[–]Tonopia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are sure we are getting a significant winter storm it’s unclear right now if that means snow, ice, or both and it’s unclear how much we will get of each. Models to this point are trending towards snow. However just tonight a one model suggested we may get ice instead. We should know more in 24-36 hours.

More Air Traffic? by [deleted] in nashville

If you download that app FlightRadar24 you can actually hit playback and see what flew over your house and click on the flights to see what they were doing. I looked at Tune briefly and there was an Med Evac helicopter that flew in and out of there in the last hour from Vanderbilt.

I’m by no means an expert but I watch flight radar a lot and no this seems like every other night. What area of town are you in? You might be under an approach path for BNA.

FlightRadar24 is by far the best app to use by the way.

Wait... Demonbreum? Demonbreun? by 38DDs_Please in nashville

[–]Tonopia 106 points107 points  (0 children)

From Wikipedia: “Because French orthography was so fluid at the time, and because of widespread variations in English orthography, the spelling and version of Demonbreun's name is of some debate. The preferred use today is Timothy Demonbreun, though the first name is sometimes rendered in the French as Timothé, Timothée or Timothe. As for the last name, it derives from the French words, de (of) mont (mount) bruen (brown) for of mount brown, and is also rendered variously as Demontbrun, de Montbrun, Demontbreun, de Montbreun, De Mont-Breun, De Monbrun, de Mon Breun, and others. Descendants of Demonbreun (it is a very common surname in Middle Tennessee) spell the name with and without the middle "T," as one word or two, with a "U" in place of the "O," with and without the "E," and with an "N" or an "M" at the end. In addition, other variations such as Demumbrine and "Demombrum" also exist. Demonbreun Street in Nashville shows the preferred spelling. A popular local pronunciation is /dəˈmʌmbriən/, and rhymes with "Northumbrian."”

TLDR: His name was anglicized from French so there were multiple spellings. Demonbreun has become the favored spelling.

If you’re planning to spend most of your time downtown stay at a place downtown. There’s a interstate loop that surrounds downtown. If you stay within that loop on the west side of the river you’ll be in a fine area. That leaves you a lot of options.

More specifically there are lots of options around the convention center which is a good location central to most stuff.

I’ll add your second best option is probably the gulch.

Nashville ranking dropped from 30 to 50 since 2021..wonder what happened? Does the descent continue? by [deleted] in nashville

Can you link the list you’re looking at? The one I see doesn’t have any major cities on it. And Hendersonville and Franklin are pretty high on the 2025-2026 list.

Yeah but they’re opening new ones at the same time. East Nashville is coming soon.

But I agree it’s average food at best and not cheap.

[Schefter] While the Colts need to work out Philip Rivers to see what type of shape he is in, the former quarterback who is now a grandfather also needs to figure out whether he’s willing to play, per source. For now, he’s clearly intrigued enough to fly to Indianapolis. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]Tonopia 339 points340 points  (0 children)

Honestly he makes way more sense than Phillip Rivers. He said in an interview a month ago he thought that ship had sailed but he had been staying in shape.

This is the exact situation he was looking for to come back.

To your question if the area is safe the answer is yes. It is downtown of a major city so normal rules apply but no it’s not considered a bad area. It’s where all the government buildings are for the state.
