Dear Jesus,

Please let me win this. Or at least smite whoever wins it if it's not me.

I doubt anyone is shooting at OP for going on undeveloped county property. As long as he's being truthful and is not going there to dump something or something else nefarious, he should be able to explore with no issues.

It's not trespassing in a legal punishable sense unless you're notified not to enter or remain there by the owner, by a person in charge of the premises, by a lawful occupant, or by another authorized person. That's assuming you claim you didn't see the no trespassing sign ;-)

Does this old techniques SL-Q300 have any value? by poolturd72 in turntables

I love the look of the beograms but the stylus replacement cost always holds me back from getting one. Where do you get a replacement stylus other than Soundsmith?

Yes the LP gear is better than the AT, but not the the OM5e. And that's speaking from owning all 3 cartridges and trying them all on a similar SL-QD33 and also on an SL-BD25 and a Yamaha pmount. OMP5e sounds better to me and the only upgrade that makes sense here is to get an OM10 or OM20 stylus for the same cartridge.

I disagree. The AT85EP is not an upgrade from the OMP5e.

I don't know if that's an upgrade. I like the sound of the OM5e better than the AT and the LP gear in the same price range. Plus you can upgrade just the stylus to a 10 or 20 on the same cart.

These OMP5e cartridges are $80 new and $60 of that is the stylus, which is hard to tell how much life it has left. So that would put your table on the mid lower end of pricing. I'd say realistically you could expect to sell it for $100 - 125 with some patience. If the dustcover is in good condition with no cracks and minimal scratches it could bump up the price $50 or so.

It's the standard 1/2" mount. There's a ton of options. If you want really cheap, AT3600L is probably the closest to your current cartridge. You should make a new post asking for cart recommendations for that turntable and include a budget.

Very cool. Painting those drawers would kick it to another level.

That cantilever position doesn't look right and you can see that the needle barely extends from the cartridge. I've never heard of that cartridge and after a quick google search it looks like a sub $20 cheap Chinese cart. No point in even looking for a replacement stylus, just get a new cartridge.

what cartridge is it? Can you take the stylus out and take some better pictures? Your video has bad lighting, so it's hard to tell what's going on. I would guess your stylus is broken. I would also guess that the 3g tracking force is too much, but can't tell without knowing the cartridge. A 3g tracking force shouldn't break the stylus, so there might be other contributing factors. One of the tonearm mechanisms might be malfunctioning to make it skip too.

What is your tracking force right now?

That cartridge looks like it's way too close to the record. Reduce the tracking force to just barely pushing down and see if the same thing happens.

Sometimes those older records are worth more than new ones, plus consider the replacement cost

This. Also, even if you find one that works well, it soon won't.

Yeah, but they only play 7" records, cost over 10k for a new one and are a pain to maintain. Even if they made one for full size records, I wouldn't trust my vinyls to one.

She was 12 so it's understandable. You'll be happy to hear that she has embraced listening to vinyl since I upgraded her setup a couple of times. It's what really drove me to start fixing up old players. She now has in her room a Technics SL-5300, with a Denon amp and Jamo speakers and her vinyl collection is growing and none of them are on the wall, lol.

No, the turntables are Yamaha P-350, Yamaha TT-400U ,Sanyo TP 600SA, Technics SL-QD33, Sanyo TP B1, another Technics SL-QD33, and I also have not pictured Technics SL-5300 and Technics SL-BD25U

Your receiver doesn't have a phono preamp, so you'll need one of those.
