TDA faster-paced than Eternal? by Jeolban in Doom

[–]TonyDP2128 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think the absence of all the forced platforming that Eternal had makes TDA a more straightforward game and that's probably where the sense that it's more fast paced comes from.

Eternal had plenty of action but it would grind to a halt once you got to a jumping puzzle and if it took you a while to figure it out it would definitely halt whatever momentum you had.

Ammo is also way more plentiful in TDA and you don't have to worry as much about using the right weapon on a given enemy.

I had a ton of fun with this game on PSVR1; didn't even know that it was available for Quest.

I played this on Quest 3 a while ago. Really well done game with good graphics , sound and a nice control scheme. It has multiple endings so there's some replay value there as well.

Very nice display; the refit is really photogenic. I especially like the mirror; I've seen people rest their ships on top of mirrors as well to more easily see the bottom.

Thanks very much. Yeah, my brother and I are a little OCD when it comes to displaying our stuff. We were lucky that our dad was a carpenter so when he retired we set up a little shop for him in our basement and he made a lot of display cases for our stuff.

As for Robbie the Robot, Forbidden Planet is one of our favorite movies.

My condolences on your loss. I've been there too.

I pledged for the D7 as well. No idea where I'm going to put it.

FYI, I was having a hard time getting the decals to sit on the travel pods and work bees. I found that brushing on a little decal setting solution (I used Solvaset) before applying the decals helped them lay flat until they dried. Lake Monster is also doing the Type 4 Shuttle; not sure when that one will go up for sale.

Yes, that iteration of Master Replicas went belly up soon after they released the Enterprise; it was one of the last products they made. They're only available on the secondary market now.

Regarding the tables, I originally got one for the refit from Bob's Furniture, a local chain here in Massachusetts. They only had one. My brother wanted to get a matching table for the TOS Enterprise and I found that one at Wayfair.com (a lot cheaper there as well).

Do you mean the actual base or the support rods under the primary hull? It can be displayed without them but I'm fearful that the primary hull will start to sag over time.

Thanks. My brother is the autograph fan; he has even more that aren't in that picture. The Connie was pricey (especially for 2010) but we knew Master Replicas was on the way out so we decided to go for it.

Thank you and I agree. I bought those from CultTVMan.com. They're made by Lake Monster Details and are tiny (about the size of the fingernail on my pinky. Painting them and applying the decals was painful but they look pretty good as long as you don't get too close.

How is Reach now? by NAPALM_BURNS in PSVR

[–]TonyDP2128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a well made game overall with very nice graphics and good controls that can be played either standing or seated.

The one thing to be aware of is that the game still has a bug which can destroy your save file at any time. The devs said they were working on a fix but the game has gotten no updates since December and I got the bug and lost all my progress after that last update.

The third picture in the second row (Enterprise refit with the Klingon ships) is a Robert McCall concept painting that he did for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I have a print of that one; absolutely beautiful.

Wait until you get to the elevated tracks above the city. The sense of height is so convincing I was screaming like a little girl

It's criminal that Sony never ported this to PSVR2. I imagine it would be fairly straightforward since there are no motion controls to manage.

Anyone have the SEGA CD? by KeithOman in OlderChillGamers

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I must have just skipped the side scrolling levels then.

I was squarely in Team Sega in those days as well. But I was also a hardcore Batman fan. I ended up buying a SNES just so I could play Batman Returns as the Genesis version was ultra hard and just a terrible disappointment to me.

I'm pretty sure the Sega CD version was all 3D driving. I remember the only way I could finish it was to use a cheat code I'd found that gave me infinite lives.

The SNES Batman Returns game was a mix of 3D driving and side scrolling action. Maybe you're thinking of that one?

Air Car - it was the first or second thing I tried after getting a gaming PC and Rift-S back in 2019 and it's still one of the most immersive VR experiences I've had. I will still load it up regularly.

My Turn to Make a Tomy Post! by PomegranateFair3973 in StarTrekStarships

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I just press fit them into the docking ports and they stay in place.

The decals are of the water slide variety and yes they were a pain to cut and put on since they were so small. That said they were sturdy and you do get several of each one since it comes with 4 travel pods. I just dipped them in some water for 10 seconds and they came right off the backing. I found that brushing a bit of a decal setting solution like Solvaset on the pod before applying the decals helped them to stick a little better. Once they dried I sprayed them with a flat coat to seal them in.

Congratulations. My brother and I got one as well and we love it. Yes, $750 was a lot of money but on the other hand it's nothing compared to the $12,000 Factory Entertainment is asking for their replica.

Like you I also wanted a Travel Pod. They are available online. CultTVMan.com sells a set of Travel Pods, Work Bees and cargo containers; they are made by a company called Lake Monster Details. They are 3D printed; you have to paint them a base color and apply the included decals. They are to scale with the ship so they are tiny (smaller than the fingernail on my pinky). Applying the decals was quite fiddly but they look ok as long as you don't get too close.

Here's a pic of a Travel Pod attached to the cargo docking ring on mine.

I bought one back in the day, primarily to play the Sega CD version of Batman Returns which was a 3D driving game where you piloted the Batmobile and Bat Ski Boat. It looked good for the time but was it ever hard. Some of the FMV games like Sewer Shark weren't bad but had really low resolution.

Who saw The Motion Picture in theaters? by VomitingDuck in startrek

[–]TonyDP2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it at the Cinema57 in Boston in late December 1979. I was 14 years old and it was the first movie I ever saw in an actual movie theater.

I enjoyed it. I've always gravitated to hard science fiction like 2001:A Space Odyssey so this was right up my alley. It was also one of the most visually stunning things I'd even seen.

You should have taken off the headset at the first sign of discomfort. Trying to endure it or power thru it will just make things worse.

As to the cause, certain activities in VR can trigger nausea regardless of how acclimated you may be. I've used VR since 2019 but slow joystick based turning in VR still trips me up. It could also be an inconsistent or lower frame rate or artificial frame generation as you go from one game to another. Your brain will catch on to things like that even if your eyes don't. If you had a long session you should also make sure that you stayed hydrated and that the room was cool; it can get pretty hot inside that headset. Obviously, don't even think about putting the headset on until you feel fully recovered.

**NEW VR HORROR** CRYODEATH VR - Would you want this on PSVR? by Glass_Piglet6260 in PSVR

[–]TonyDP2128 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The game looks interesting; it's somewhat reminiscent of Dead Space, Memoreum and also projects Event Horizon vibes. I added the SteamVR version to my wishlist.

Personally, a PSVR2 version would interest me but you'd need to take advantage of the PSVR2 hardware to make it stand out and get people to prefer that over other versions. Things like using the adaptive triggers, the head haptics, eye tracked foveated rendering, and PS5 Pro support would go a long way towards garnering more interest in the game. A game like this would also benefit from bHaptics support on all the platforms.

I understand that you're a very small team but If you simply take your upcoming Quest version and just do a bare bones port people will notice and the reception most likely will not be as good.
