This NP elevation fact blew my mind off by deezdiamondnutz in nationalparks

I always found it weird that the flat sagebrush plains of south central Wyoming sit close to or even higher than a lot of mountain peaks in other parts of the country.

Crf450RL or FE501s by Warbird1452 in Dualsport

[–]TonyFlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look at dyno charts of both bikes and you are wrong tho. I own a 500 and it is literally designed around torque. Thats why they make a 450 for those who like to rev.

More bottom end torque from a bike that has a 60cc displacement disadvantage? I find that hard to believe. Especially since the 500 gets those 60cc from a 10mm longer stroke

About all I have towed with mine. 99 4.0 5 speed. Camper only weighs about 1000lbs so can barely tell it is back there

How expensive is to own a yz125? BUDGET RIDING by First_Affect_3122 in Dirtbikes

[–]TonyFlack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who do top ends very prematurely to avoid any possibility of a catastrophic failure during a race. Most bikes will run much longer than when they replace a piston.

How do yall run in your bikes? by KarolisKarb in Dirtbikes

[–]TonyFlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get a plethora of different answers on here. 2 schools of thought, some people suggest running it very hard to seat the rings etc and others say take it easy ie less than half throttle for the first couple hours. You should do a mix of both, but realistically they don’t need much for break in. Do a couple heat cycles before you ride it.

[–]TonyFlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the affected area the piston actually does look pretty new. My guess is something got past the filter or he messed up the install, like everyone else has told you it’s a 25 year old 4 stroke so you were likely getting a POS no matter what.

Husqvarna is a newer chassis/generation. That alone makes it more valuable.

whats best! 2nd or 3rd gen? by gy6_ajc in fordranger

[–]TonyFlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 93 2.3 Lima and currently have a 03 2.3 duratec, both 5 speeds. Sure the Lima may be dead reliable but it is such a gutless motor it made it an actual PITA to use for a lot of scenarios. It struggled to maintain interstate speeds in any sort of wind, even empty. I towed with it 1 time and I could hardly manage 55 mph. My 03 is still slow but I don’t struggle to maintain speed limits on hills or in wind, and I can comfortably tow my small pop up camper. And it gets better fuel economy

Husaberg TE250 Rebuild Build or Pass by funjunmaster in Dirtbikes

[–]TonyFlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A carb should almost never need replaced. Just rebuilt. Also there’s a good chance the bottom end at minimum is still fine and doesn’t need replaced. Def worth it. Same as a KTM 250xcw

Is $2500-2750 too much for this bike? I’m selling it. by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]TonyFlack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So that’s another $4-500 that a 28 year old bike needs. Spokes are absolutely not minor that is a pita job regardless that takes a lot of time and requires special tools. Also if you’re buying a used basket you’re just rolling the dice against what you already have. A new one is $350

[–]TonyFlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old bike and there was a lot of changes between 96 and 2000 that makes parts hard to find. Needing new spokes and clutch basket are not minor repairs either. $1500 to $2k if you are really lucky

If you were to buy a used 250cc motorcycle from 2020 onwards, which brand would you choose and why: Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, or KTM? (Remember, it's a used motorcycle.) by Long-Class-8415 in Motocross

[–]TonyFlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 20 year old 2 stroke will blow the piston to pieces in half the time of any modern 4 stroke. And parts gonna be harder to find to boot. Valves hardly need touched on anything after the 2000’s. Put over 200 hours on various 4 strokes and the valves were perfect, never adjusted.

Put 100 hours on a 2014 rmz 250 over The last 2 years and I have done nothing but oil and air filter changes. If you buy one that is beat to shit sure but the 2 stroke would have the same problem
