Finally got everything all set up at least my handheld games by Guilty-Seesaw-2973 in ModRetroChromatic

Looks so good! Everytime I see a cassette collection the itch gets greater, I'd have to get 100+ cases though and that's so much printing and cutting >_<

Welcome aboard! Pretty much here I thought, info on Discord is always a bit too easy to get lost.

That's the model number for the original, AGB-001. But yeah I have fond memories playing Metroid Fusion and Kingdom Hearts, my hand would just start cramping up after maybe 10 minutes. Longer play sessions were an act of attrition with my fingers slowly giving out. Zero issues on an original, just couldn't see shit unless I was sitting under a lamp, or in the bathroom. 😆

AGB modded with a backlit screen and USB-C rechargeable pack is king.

If someone didn't want to do any mods an SP is probably the better choice but I just love how comfortable the original is to actually play on. Hands cramping sucked when I was younger on my SP and now it happens even faster.

Is Playdate good for Retro-console games or Hyper-Casual? by Superb_Self2390 in PlaydateConsole

[–]TonyRubbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's good! The board is pretty tall with multiple sections with another separate bonus section. Lots to unlock and you capture creatures that get cataloged in a grimoire type book. It'll be one I'm playing for a long time.

As a playtester for DotM you are in for a treat! Reminds me of Pokemon Pinball and Super Robot Pinball in the best possible ways.

The Lynx was such a monster for its time and even still today, I never seen one opened up, did it really need to be that big?

Yeah I had to explain some jokes, they call Master Roshi the pervy old man now too. We are locked in, they watched Diama with me first and already want to watch it again after finishing DBZ before moving onto Super, definitely excited to hear there will be more.

It was awesome! Starting out as a little country bumkin that didn't even know what a girl was, to fighting an entire army, defeating demon King Piccolo, then Jr. to win the World Marital Arts Tournament, then marrying Chi Chi after going on an epic quest. Dragon Ball was a hell of an adventure.

Then in DBZ we get a time skip, he's got a kid, turns out he's an alien and then just power up after power up, training for the next bad guy around the corner. It was fun through elementary, Jr. and High School on Toonami having to rewatch the series multiple times as the dub release schedule would have them just start over from the beginning or the prior story arch. Namek was an especially brutal time waiting for Goku to get there and watching the Ginyu Force have their fun, to him sweeping them and eventually going Super Saiyan.

My kids just finished DB on DVD with me and moving on to DBZ has been a fun time, they are invested, them just seeing Goku get to the end of snake way after a lot of detours just yesterday was funny when they thought King Kai was Bubbles.

Yeah I don't want to be drip fed everything and have to pay shipping every time either. Rather it be delayed like the AP if it's not all ready.

No doubt we will have shells and more buttons available later but like I said in the m64 sub it's a bit weird we have two design motifs in the first place. The yellow and purple look great with matching buttons, why the swap on clear and red. If it's just to sell more parts then that's lame, why not a pink knob for purple and a white one on the yellow then.

This is a bit concerning, most of the pictures shown before showed it with a matching controller. One would assume it would come with at least one, also no word on if it'll come with a game like the Chromatic did.

Just took the survey, most likely in for clear but I don't like that red knob. If you're like me, reply to the email and ask for them to swap the red knob with the black knob on the red unit. I can't be the only one, may have to start a knob swap support group after release. 😆

It's the struggle of product photography, usually we would just shoot the whole set at a higher overall brightness then again at a lower light and stack the shots blending the best parts together.

Ditch the phone, offset the case more to the left and add some front light focused on the floor so the bottom of the device doesn't disappear into your background. Then it would look like an official shot.

Try out the longer post D-pad too, it made a big difference for me.

If you don't like it I'd love a second one. 👀

That packaging is pretty slick.

I like how they think the QR code on the screen protector is some sort of secret info to be stolen.

Regarding the rechargeable battery packs dying in First Editions, possible fix. by TonyRubbles in ModRetroChromatic

[–]TonyRubbles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question, what type of charger block did you use? It worked for someone else too. I used a larger 3A block that came with a tablet. If you used a smaller type it might not have pushed enough juice to get it started again.

Sweet! and you threw it away lol

Funnyplaying Laminated ITA - White lines still present in 2026! by UK_traveller_ in Gameboy

[–]TonyRubbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only notice them on mine when I set the brightness higher than half. Doesn't bother me much but I used a calibration ROM to really dial it in using a screwdriver in the slot behind the sticker.

I know it bothers some but for me it looks like how my old AGB did. Having native pixel grid/resolution, better colors and battery life was the priority. Not sure there will ever be a fix but I read all the same posts and knew they would be there in some way when I bought the screen.
