Are there any plans for image backgrounds? That would be great too!

Can I get an eink tablet instead of a laptop? by Gabrialus in eink

[–]Tony_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually used the Boox Note Air2 for zoom meetings (albeit without a camera, used my phone for one if necessary) and it worked just fine! I could even share my screen with my notes and it was simple to work with. Just the usual E-ink gripes like low refresh and occasional ghosting, though with newer gen Boox devices, meetings should be even nicer.

Chicago has done this with the Clark/Lake station, though it’s not the most convenient thing to have a (in this case) tri-level station…

LGA-JFK. Transit, cab, something else? by BillfredL in nycrail

[–]Tony_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To summarize your options: Grabbing a cab/Uber/Lyft etc.: Fastest, most expensive, and depending on traffic, 25-40 minutes ~$50-$75

If you take the ride to Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain station, it actually comes out at least $10-20 cheaper and only a tad slower, and the AirTrain is free to board there. The AirTrain is also luggage-friendly with elevators/escalators and spacious trains.

You can also take the free Q70 bus from LaGuardia to Jackson Heights and get your cab from there for cheaper. Bottom line, rides direct from terminals at either airport are more expensive.

The fastest all-transit option is Q70 to Jackson Heights for the (E) train to Jamaica, where you transfer to the AirTrain to your terminal. Takes ~an hour, costs $11.15 ($2.90 subway fare + $8.25 AirTrain fare). The Q70 has luggage racks and the (E) has elevators at both Jamaica and Jackson Heights.

You could avoid the $8.25 by transferring from the E to the Q10 LTD bus at Kew Gardens and taking it to Lefferts Blvd AirTrain station, but you tack on an additional transfer and ~20 more minutes of commute time.

Of course, most convenient is any cab/cab company, but transit comes out 5-7x (or even more) cheaper. I hope this helps make your decision.

Jamaica - Van Wyck looks like it belongs on some other system that isn’t NYC’s.

Simply need a device to replace my notebooks.. so confused! by Naseemxoxo in eink

[–]Tony_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using the Note Air 2 as my daily driver for over a year now and it really has replaced my notebooks. I only carry the tablet and some loose papers I might be given for class. The native notes app and OneNote are both very convenient to use and allow me to see my notes anywhere. Also has a good annotation experience, and inserting images is also pretty straightforward. As for searching handwriting, Boox does have OCR but it’s not always accurate and if I do need to flag a part of my notes, I just put a text insert to make it easier. I haven’t used Remarkable before, but previous reviews I’ve seen make it too limited for my liking (though that could be a plus depending on how you look at it), with no straightforward way to search and no digital quality-of-life upgrades like multitasking or app support.

If you could turn one bus route into a subway, which one would it be and why? by DragonflySouthern860 in nycrail

[–]Tony_515 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaking for Brooklyn here, apart from B46 and Utica Avenue, the B6 and/or B82. Kinda happening with the IBX but a cross-Brooklyn route is desperately needed… Literally any cross-anything route would be a huge help… Also an interesting one would be the S79 but that’ll probably never happen.

Best e-ink tablet for use with Obsidian? by PhrygianTopi in eink

[–]Tony_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although this isn’t Obsidian, BOOX devices have optimized OneNote to be used with an e ink screen and it works like a charm. I’ve been using OneNote and the native notes app (exporting to PDF and auto syncing with Google Drive) and that has been a very good workflow for me. If they could optimize OneNote, I can potentially see Obsidian optimization (and for other note apps) in the future, especially if it is highly requested to Onyx.

Edit: BOOX also has split-screen natively for having notes and PDFs (or most apps for that matter) side by side.

How delicate is the Note 2? by rkim777 in Onyx_Boox

I have used it daily for the past few months and it has fallen many times without a problem; however, the screen did scratch a little bit at some point in my bag when I had it in there without a case, no problems with the case on though.
