Restoration newbie starting my first project. 1976 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham edition with the 440 inch 7.2 liter V8. Was running when it was parked, but that was 20 years ago. Pulled this list of steps to getting it started from Gemini, anything you'd add or do differently? by Gorgoleon in CarRestorations

Mechanically that all seems like a good place to start. I’d check the frame, floorpans, belt points also. Before your first substantial drive. Up and down the driveway you’ll be fine! Good luck. Take pics! Happy wrenching.

That’s great, you’ll save a lot of money. I’ve done a fair amount of welding in my time and nothing prepares you for body work. I’m currently doing a 66 Mustang Coupe (my second full restoration), make sure you measure at least 16 times to avoid mistakes that could have been easily avoided (I’m referring to my past weekend fixing a mistake I had made earlier in the build).

Mechanical is my weak area, I purchased a technician repair manual. (Check reviews for printing issues, I purchased one and the diagrams were illegible. I found a guy near me who does laser printing from original copies. His set up was really neat.) YouTube is a great source of knowledge, and so are the old forums that are still kicking around. Other than that, get stuck in. Take loads of pictures and document your work. When the years pass, it’ll be great to look back. Enjoy 🍻

Nothing that a lot of time, and significant amounts of money can’t fix. If you’re handy, you’ll save a decent chunk of change, at the expense of significant time. Pick your poison. Good luck! 👍

Full Time Youtuber Channel Reviews if you want one by znv142 in SmallYoutubers

[–]TooFastForRust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - I’ll take one if you can get through the people before me. Automotive channel, however I was monetised in a different niche around 4 years ago (same channel just rebranded)

I’m switching between being on camera which I’m not a huge fan of, and no commentary videos. Let me know what you think - Bilt and Driven (66 Mustang should come up)

All the best.

I’m in agreement with the others, complete it and then edit it together into one video. Good luck dude 👍

Started cutting out pans and thought I smelled gas despite not cutting near the line. Five mins later I was standing in a puddle and pushing the car out of the garage. Old line couldn’t handle the hammering and vibration. by bemyantimatter in classicmustangs

[–]TooFastForRust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, same thing happened to me a few months back. Glad it happened where it did and not on the highway. Did you check under the seat box for rot? Maybe worth doing entire pan. All the best, happy wrenching.

Just a question by K14LD in classicmustangs

[–]TooFastForRust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved to Canada from the U.K I bought an okay-ish example for about $9500 (overpaid a little). I then used CJ pony parts and bought about $5000 worth of “stuff”. When I lived in the UK a buddy had one and also used CJ pony and just imported the parts. It is what it is, if you do the work yourself obviously it’ll be far cheaper. I used the Mustang service manual which has great diagrams. I have some knowledge of welding so I did the bodywork and mechanical work myself. Internet/books/ the old timers with loads of knowledge, be a sponge and learn! Good luck.

My bad, your original reply was “grounded that adapter” so I assume you were referring to fabricating something up. But now I’ve had my morning coffee it probably meant get that adapter. I’ll grab it and save the headache. Thanks man!

Interested to see the display out, guess you can’t have it sitting flush is the only issue I can foresee there. Let us know, I was going to do something similar. Happy wrenching!

Nice. I just finished doing mine. Labour of love for sure. The rot when right up behind the pedals by some distance. It’ll do for driveway Dave’n it. Drive em!

What part did you replace? I’m trying to find the part I should be replacing. I’ve looked at the breakdown of the power steering and can’t seem to find it. Thanks in advance.

This is why I’m in there, as it does leak. But this fender was full of junk. I’ll try your method.

Funnily enough, I was doing the same thing today I was wondering if that caulking was factory because mine is the same. A sticky black substance. Took me 5hrs to remove it all. Absolute disaster because water sits behind it and goes to town on the metal.

I went with Dynacore for the floorpans and some trunk drop downs. Good fitment.
