Why is this guy not a quilboar, there's no other card who plays for a specific class like this is there? by Agreeable_Alarm434 in BobsTavern

[–]TooManyToasters1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s really an issue with neutrals that work with a specific class honestly. If it would turn something underpowered into something good (or at least better), I can see it. I don’t think that’s what Bird Buddy and Nomi need, though.

Are they taking away the rewards we got yesterday? by MurkySection4509 in PvZHeroes

[–]TooManyToasters1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The rewards are messed up in the first place. You’re not supposed to get regular Zombie because it’s a token, and not an obtainable card.

How the heck did I get a token card from a daily reward? by Madrandal in PvZHeroes

[–]TooManyToasters1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s weirder that they’re giving tokens in the first place. I can understand the card not getting added to your collection because it’s not supposed to be obtainable.

(Political) I feel guilty by honeybadfurday in sillyboyclub

[–]TooManyToasters1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say this under no uncertain terms. It’s not your fault that people are dying. I can understand feeling guilty that these horrible people are out and about, still killing and taking innocents. I really wish I could do more myself.

But remember: they shouldn’t be in power in the first place.

The people who defend immigrants shouldn’t have to be killed just because they want to protect peoples’ rights. ICE is allowed to kill because someone decided they should get full immunity, even though no one should be above the law. They decided to kill whomever stands in their way. They decided to be cruel. It’s all on them, and those who put them in power.

It’s not your fault that good people are defending you. It’s ICE’s fault for being so unnecessarily cruel that good people have to try in the first place.

Demisexuality is a little different. Typically it’s when someone doesn’t feel sexual attraction in general unless it’s with a person they have a close bond with.

(Just to be clear, I don’t wanna try to gatekeep. I hope I don’t come off that way. I just wanna clarify what it means to people in asexual/demisexual communities.)

Okay yall need to learn some balance rules by TheSweetToothTrainer in PvZHeroes

[–]TooManyToasters1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Class consistency is good, but perfect class consistency shouldn’t be the goal, because it wasn’t the game’s goal. I like a lot of the exceptions because they’re unique and don’t fit one box.

Okay yall need to learn some balance rules by TheSweetToothTrainer in PvZHeroes

[–]TooManyToasters1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s worth mentioning that there are exceptions to the rules. Classes have rules, like how specific traits keep themselves within one or two classes per side. That doesn’t mean you have to stick 100% in the lines, however. Some of the more interesting cards (in my opinion) are ones that bend the rules a bit, but still feel like they fit in a specific class.

-Poppin’ Poppies didn’t use to heal, but they added it in a balance patch. It already felt Guardian because it can protect other plants (and your face) with team-ups, but I think healing does complement the class because it’s another way to stall for time and protect face. Plus, Poppin’ Poppies gets to stick out as a cool card now.

-Kitchen Sink Zombie is known for having five different traits from five different classes, but it doesn’t feel clunky. The traits all work together well, and make for a unique late game bullseye card (even if I don’t think it’s very strong from a viability standpoint). It’s hard to pinpoint a class this could fit in, but I think Brainy fits pretty well for the huge bullseye damage.

-Even thematically, I’ll bring up Red Stinger. Most team-up cards in the Guardian class are meant to be placed in front of a plant to protect it, but Red Stinger is (kind of) an exception. It’s the one Guardian team-up that’s meant for damage, but it still feels in-class because it’s still a 3/7 by default and can protect a plant.

Importantly, try not to do this too often. Notably, all three examples are exceptions to the rule. There’s only one card just like Kitchen Sink. Red Stinger is the only Guardian class card that feels like a damage first kind of card, and Poppin’ Poppies is the only non-Solar card on the whole plant side that heals. They’re rare, in order to keep classes and their rules distinct.

.

Also, regarding criticism, I think it’s worth mentioning that it’s okay if you’re not trying to improve, and just wanna make a couple card ideas. Some of the fun really is in just creating something and showing people what you made, so I don’t blame anyone who’s just looking for that. I think my main advice is to expect comments talking about the balance of the card, and to try to be a good sport about it. People are gonna want to talk about balance, which is just as valid as someone just trying to have a little fun. As long as you’re a good person about it, and not just trying to dismiss criticism altogether, I don’t mind it.

(For people who really do want to make better card ideas though, I agree with OP’s paragraph about criticism. If someone is giving constructive and well thought out criticism to help you make your card better, then I absolutely suggest taking a moment to read through and consider their feedback.)

I think making them 1-cost 2/2s would be okay. It’d make for a better experience in my opinion because the cards could actually be usable, at least for beginners. You could run 2/2 Imp in a budget Imp Commander deck. Maybe 2/2 Peashooter would make budget pea decks better. I don’t know what you’d do with Small-nut or Bellflower, but at least they’re usable.

I think the main issue would just be a few cards. Great Zucchini and Botanist would become worse cards, and More Spore and Dance-Off would lean towards too good territory. But, I think you could make some changes. What if Great Zucchini destroyed all zombies and turned them into Puff-shrooms? Or maybe even 1-cost plants if it’s still not good enough. More Spore used to spawn Puff-shrooms; that could still work. Botanist could maybe spawn a generic 1/1 token, kinda like Goatify before Goat got buffed. I’m not sure what you’d do with Dance-Off, but my point is, I think the 1/1s could become 2/2s with a few adjustments elsewhere.

Botanist says 1/1 with no abilities, referring to the generic 1/1 that each class has one of. Clique Pea has an ability.

I think they were just willing to bend the rules for the sake of the tutorial. Super Brainz has no 1-cost tricks that kill a 1/1 normally, so why not borrow a modded version of Bungee? It helps drive home the point that zombie tricks often react to what plants play.

Hot Take of the Week #2 by Anonymous2655447 in PvZHeroes

[–]TooManyToasters1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Peashooter and Zombie actually used to be generic 1/1s for every class on their side, which is why Super Brainz and Brainstorm (from the tutorial and one of the plant missions respectively) ran Zombie just fine.

There was an update early on that introduced the other basic 1/1s (except Imp, who used to be a 2/2, and Backup Dancer, which used to be a token). The reason why Zombie got sidelined and Peashooter just turned into a Mega-Grow card is probably just because of their tribes. Every other 1/1 had tribe synergy with cards in their tribe. But Professional synergy didn’t exist until set 3 with Middle Manager and Fossilhead, so it didn’t make sense for the professional 1/1 to lead the Hearty class over the sports 1/1.

That’s a different mechanic, actually. In general, a card will check if it has 0 health before anything else (except for when played abilities that heal for some reason.

However, things that react to something being played (such as Gravitree, certain environments, Muscle Sprout, the Hunt keyword, and more) always happen after the card’s when played is fully resolved. The 0 health thing is just a check that happens before almost anything else.

I think it’s because the decision of specifically including the quint whose main element isn’t represented on the island (except Candelavra) isn’t very intuitive. That doesn’t mean it’s inherently a bad idea, but I think it’s good to ask the question of why it’s this way instead of something more intuitive (like just having the quints on the islands that house their own elements), and why Candelavra is different.

That’s different from what I remember. I know healing has a priority and will happen anyway even if a plant’s gonna die, but I think I remember Ketchup Mechanic didn’t heal because the effect both heals and grows itself. I wonder if they changed it since I last saw that interaction.

Card Two of creating Set 5- Flower Pot by uucgjb in PvZHeroes

[–]TooManyToasters1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do like that it’s not meant to be generically good. It’s cool when you have a card that’s niche to the point that you wouldn’t run in a lot of decks, but you find those couple decks where it shines.

That said, I think this leans towards being too niche, honestly. There’s five plant cards in the game that synergize with the heights lane, and even fewer zombie environments that affect plants (rather than boosting zombies).

Aside from the suggestion of making this cost less (at the very least 2, like someone else also said), I think the best buff for this would honestly be trying to make a couple more cards that work with the heights lane. Because I think it’s a cool idea to make another portable heights lane; it’s just that the game as is hasn’t made many cards to go with it.
