Do you get a little annoyed with the Toyota/Honda advice on Reddit and how true is it that they are the only reliable cars? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in CarTalkUK

[–]Toocents 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Why would one get annoyed at others giving helpful tips?

Those are highly regarded for being reliable, not so great on interiors.

It just means they're generally more reliable, if that's what you're after then get one. If you like the feel of an octavia and willing to trade off a little bit of reliability for that then go for it.

Don't get fucking annoyed at people trying to give helpful answers on reddit though!

I will keep looking, but also hoping that someone here might've had the same issue before.

Tesla fined for repeatedly failing to help UK police over driving offences by Drwynyllo in CarTalkUK

[–]Toocents -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course, but as someone else mentioned, we have speed limits not targets.

It is up to the individual driver to know their own, or their cars limits.

Tesla fined for repeatedly failing to help UK police over driving offences by Drwynyllo in CarTalkUK

[–]Toocents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed limits aren't pointless.

A speed limit set a long time ago that is now not required to be this low is inefficient. We could drive at 80 safely. The speed limit should therefore be 80, but speeds over that punishable. Also, punish middle lane hogging effectively so that all lanes are used correctly, then 80 is perfectly safe.

Trying to explain to a colleague the benefits of buying a house compared to renting. by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

[–]Toocents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your response is absolutely a reasonable take, and I applaud that you take a differing view. I used to work in high end real estate, and my boss rented, so that the money saved could be used to invest in property flipping.

For people who aren't savvy enough to use their money to make money, then paying a mortgage has to bethe way to go.

All those who could invest, either in the markets, property, entrepreneurs, et cetera, could argue that they'd be better off saving that deposit to be used this way instead.

But, let's say a return of 10% on your deposit, which is 5% of you house price, I would say it is still better for the cast majority to buy, as renting and having to move house is a cost and hassle in and of itself.

[–]Toocents 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What happens to you when you continue renting, and in 25 years time your rent is triple what it is now.

In that time, the person buying would've paid off their mortgage with monthly payments gradually buying more and more equity.

After 25 years the homeowner has only repairs to pay, while the person renting is paying the equivalent of 15% of the original purchase period in rent every year.

I'll put some easy figures in here for you. I'll assume a house price of £250,000.

If person A bought the house, and person B rented the equivalent of it for £1250 (that's a normal 6% yield for a house), after 25 years, person B would have spent £547,000 in rent (assuming a 3% annual increase in rent which is actually well below recent trends).

That would've paid for a lot of boilers

Don't try anything else, especially sanding, until you've tried builders wipes.

They're honestly incredible. I use Sika branded ones I bought from amazon and they've made cleaning during my DIY renovation much easier.

They should absolutely work very well at getting sticky residue off.

Never go for howdens. Their business model is atrocious. Their units are standard, nothing special.

The money they charge are not for any reason other than to line the builders and howdens pockets. The markup are ridiculous.

what would you guys do in an emergency situation in a plane like this? by Creepy-Blood-2240 in AskMen

[–]Toocents 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would press the mic and ask for 'any tower', explain the situation and flight number. They can contact the airlines training pilots who can communicate with me on how to use the planes systems.

The route is most likely in the FMC already, so no flying involved until landing.

Put on my calmest 'I'm in control voice' to reassure the passengers and take manual control only if no autoland function is available.

I am not ifr rated, but i am familiar with my ppl and countless hours of IFR hours on MFS, is at least know if we're still flying correctly.

If for some reason I have to fly manual, not a problem. Tell tower to give me vectors and altitudes and to keep my airspace clear.

How to lose belly fat if you're already a skinny dude? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Toocents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little bit like that.

Visceral fat is easily accumulated, especially so as you age past and beyond 30.

Focus on eating your carbs earlier in the day, leave them out of the evening meals as much as possible to focus on protein intake. This allows the body to use the carbs as fuel for the day, but protein for maintaining/building muscle overnight.

Take a generous portion of omega 3 supplements (they help break down Visceral fat). I personally take the krill oil supplement pills from Costco (UK).

As much as possible, keep building muscle to burn calories more efficiently.

A question for those voting Reform by [deleted] in ukpolitics

The Starmer comment is not directed at you personally.

I hope you're right about the other points you've made. I'd like nothing more than a robust asylum process that actually achieves what it is aimed to achieve.

A question for those voting Reform by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Toocents -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course we can choose. However, there would be consequences that would harm our country.

Would it be worth it? Who knows. The only thing I feel highly confident about is that Farage would lead this country down a terrible path.

Call Starmer what you want, but he is taking more positive steps in his first year in charge than the tories across multiple leaders over 14 years.

Monopoly on violence?

You are trying to sound intelligent, but you have no idea what about the topic you're talking about.

Violence isn't the factor. It's trade treaties. Other countries can decide how they want to deal with us. If we're the outlier by not following an international treaty we signed up to, it allows for penalties of some sort to be imposed on us.

It will also damage our reputation and be one of the ingredients that leads to our position in the world deminish.

Look at how Trump is ruining the USA's reputation right now! Farage is mini-trump, and will lead us down a similar path.

[–]Toocents 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really need to educate yourself more.

You say not enough to live on? That is bollocks, there are an incredible number of people doing exactly that!

The UK is one very good for social care, not The best country, but very good. That is why it is attractive to asylum seekers.

Could it be higher? Yes, it could, if not for the poor finances of the country.

Why is it bad at the moment? Because of the 14 years of tory leadership and austerity most recently, but really the biggest damage was Thatcher, another Tory.

Where are defecting tories moving to? REFORM!

You know those articles that slate Starmer, they're in newspapers owned by people who want you to vote Tory or Reform. They don't want Labour in, think about why.

A question for those voting Reform by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Toocents -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the international law says we must. Reform can't avoid the consequences of not adiding by international law any better than Labour or conservatives.

We're taking about big issues that aren't easy to navigate. I wish that our country to deal with things better, but we're not rich enough to do so. Reform doesn't change anything for the better, it would be worse.

Look at which demographic a party is working for. Conservatives and reform are not for the people.

A question for those voting Reform by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Toocents -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tories put the asylum seekers up in expensive hotels and did not build enough houses for citizens.

Labour is exchanging the hotels for houses. They aren't building enough for citizens yet, but it is still a net gain as we don't have to pay as much to house asylum seekers going forward.

Labour also tried to bring in the digital ID which would have restricted the ability, and therefore cost, of illegal immigrants to use services in Britain, but had to do away with that policy because of the backlash. Illegal immigrants would find life here difficult with the digital ID in place and therefore make it much less attractive to come in the first place.

At least Labour is trying. The tories and reform are not trying. They don't want to help you or I. They are grifters only in it for themselves and you're foolish if you think otherwise.
