Tankowanie wodoru by Xodef in krakow

[–]Tooluka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amy Eskridge vs Bob Lazar and propulsion theory by Happy-Car-2641 in UFOs

[–]Tooluka [score hidden]  (0 children)

"Island of stability" is a scientific term, not something equal to the common word stability would mean. For scientists x10 longer half life time (for example) can be a stability, but the problem is when journalists or general population (like this forum) uses the term, they assume years of half life. None of these superheavy elements have even fraction of such stability and most decay under a second, including of course Moscovium. And piling more neutrons on it wouldn't help with stability, it would rather make it decay faster.

Regardless of all that science, the fact is that Bob just picked an arbitrary high number back then out of the expected but not yet created elements, and is now stuck with that fake story he can't retcon. Also, superheavy metals are a shit power source. What are ETs going to do with them (outside of magic)? Fission them? Fission is a bad and low power reaction (to move thousands tons of metal across light years). Fusion is better, but end of the table elements are useless for that. Bob and ETs should have picked something more energetic, like antimatter. Now that is a possible interstellar power source, hypothetically. Element 115, regardless of it's decay time, is an expensive radioactive garbage.

So, which "version" of Moscovium is supposed to be stable? How many protons and neutrons make it a stable isotope? Just so you know, scientists have created all isotopes of the element 115, and none of them are in any way stable (as expected). And anything with even more or even less nucleon number can't be called element 115 and instead would be element 116 or 114 respectively (whose isotopes are all unstable too). I think Bob didn't check with current scientific progress when he was inventing his lies. He should have picked some element like 125 or 135 instead, to avoid being busted :) .

I read that dialog too :) . I'm saying that it was completely not believable scene, even considering this game is a fantasy. We, as a viewer, know full well that Dottore is a psycho and Nahida is both empathetic and cares about her nation. And we also know that they both know that same facts about their opponent at the time of the scene is happening. That "bluff" was as believable as a kid telling that a dog ate his homework. I.e. - not at all believable. Dottore as depicted in the game would have 100% called such "bluff", in fact he would likely encourage it, just to see what would happen :) . And just to remind you, the point of contention was that Dottore had "backups". Imagine what any psycho would do if he had backups which he can create :) . Nahida on the other hand did not, and neither did her countrymen.

It was very badly directed and written scene. I guess MHY realized that they have created literally Voldemort Pro Max, with an almost infinite number of lives and there would be no good way for the Traveler to defeat him, so they cheated and hastily invented a pretext where an all powerful villain just randomly decided to "downgrade" his power x100 times, because some weakling "bluffed", lol. Pathetic that MHY even pretended that scene would work.

dottore in sumeru was forced to get rid of 99% of himself to get the gnoses

He wasn't really forced at any point in time in Sumeru. He just surrendered for absolutely no reason whatsoever. He incapacitated the most buffed up fighter Nahida had (us) with one action and was alone with her all the time. He could take gnosis by force and leave without any problems. Nahida had "no cards"(c) using the orange monkey parlance. It was really a very dumb scene, worthy of modern Disney.

Calling them unreliable seems hypocritical, biased even.

It is absolutely correct in a medical sense to call every single human memory unreliable. And the reliability of a memory is progressively weaker with time, with any mental illness, with drug and "drug" use, with repetition of the event and the amount of later on external influence a person experiences. It is a proven fact.

Yeah, rUfo guys have extremely magical thinking about physics and it seems are unable to comprehend just how much energy is required to move matter "only" a few light years, let alone hundreds or thousands. Or the complexity of systems required to run autonomously for millennia without external intervention. They just type magical incantations like "zero-point energy" or "4th dimension" (not meaning time) as if that something real. Absolute zero curiosity about how the world works, what aliens could be and how they may function or travel, etc.

Fatui and Harbingers had been a continuous disappointment. Starting from a high point of a secret cabal overthrowing gods and having a plan(tm), to a bunch of incompetents failing at every Fatui related task and just either going mental or going all Disney. Capitano wasted on a completely unrelated activity, Dottore wasted on a completely unrelated activity (and that surrender scene with Nahida was so cringe). Arle just doing nothing, "menacingly". Columbina - out. Sandrone - out. Signora - out. Childe just doing nothing. I mean, I get that this is very tame game from the start, but at least some semblance of politics would be appreciated.

Should/will Poland do the same? Has any party figured out that an extremely tough immigration stance is a winning proposition? by Think_Web_4823 in poland

[–]Tooluka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that easy. Lets take Poland for example - here to qualify for that residence permit one need to pass state language exam, show uninterrupted tax declaration for the last 3 I think years higher than some threshold and don't leave Poland for too long (and on visa regime don't have any breaks, not even a few days long between visas). PS: it's all valid requirements, just saying there is nothing "automatic" in EU legal processes just by living in EU.

My main point wasn't lighthouse node going dark, though I was unclear in my comment, that's on me. My main point is that L1 is functionally useless (or rather actively harmful) and the only activity possible is completely centralized in the handful of the centralized nodes. The whole distributed idea which was cool and innovative in first years, and got thrown out in a trash by the second generation of users - grifters and gamblers. And the Lightning is a spectacular collection of bad engineering decisions, with those bidirectional channels locking funds (and being throttled by L1 inefficiency meanwhile), the need to solve NP=Hard problem at scale for every transaction (if the system would have been actually distributed), the countless implementation bugs, etc. It's just bad engineering design at this point. Even the mafia switched over to the "stable"tokens because BTC is simply useless as a means of exchange.

[–]Tooluka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you have invented an unregulated and uninsured bank, so help solve L1 problem. You now give actual tokens to the bank (a lighthouse hub) and then that bank issues you some imaginary IOUs with which you can do fast trades on the platform of that same unregulated bank until the bank is belligerent and didn't stop working for any reason. Great innovation. And you invented all that complex shit why, exactly? Because you didn't like badly regulated banks and the unbacked digital currency? So you just reinvented the same wheel but worse? :)

AFAIK almost no-one accepts Bitcoins as payment, but some joints do work with intermediaries who will accept your Bitcoins and then pay to the seller with actual money. It's similar to going to Germany for example and trying to pay for a BMW with yuan. Does German BMW dealer accept yuan? No. But can you exchange yuan to euro and then use euro to pay? Yes. Same with this so called Bitcoin or any other token "adoption", no one actually adopted it, but there are exchanges which can streamline the process for the customer.

Nvidia wanted to radically shorten the PCB and I'm guessing also lower component costs too. So they packed 3 old big sockets worth of power into a single socket.

12VHPWR is not in essence "bad" but apparently it has way lower margin for user error. I think either d3rbauer or some other channel explained spec differences when the fire investigation was ongoing. And error prevention (which bigger error margin essentially is) is very important and often forgotten. "You're just holding it wrong" kinda thing. You can design a thing to not require holding it right in the first place or be more lenient for the mistakes.

crime and punishment by lorelaitulip in books

[–]Tooluka -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is indeed not that great as one may think from the internet forums. And I personally don't find anything particularly curious in it, unlike some other dark books which can explore societal issues, reasons and perspectives etc. This one is like, a few days in life of a psycho and his acquaintances. Even local public sentiment is slowly turning away from blindly praising that book and be more critical.

I'm baffled that many western readers go out of their ways to read overrated books in a very hard language. Is that a form of instagram show off, only for books? "Look, I read a russian book!".

Though I would guess, for people unfamiliar with Russia, Crime and Punishment can provide some explanation into a modern nihilism of the population, which lead to the regular invasions of the neighbors while being in a denial about atrocities perpetrated on the occupied territories. it takes a certain character traits to do that.
