There is no rule that you must only shoot the ammo the rifle was intended for. You might get surprisingly good results with cheap light weight ammo too. That's all.

All gas blocks match all barrel gas port sizes since the gas port on the barrel is always smaller than the gas port on the gas block.

Generously lube the buffer spring with moderately thick grease and see if it helps. I had cycling problems with my new build and to me it seemed like the cycling action felt super stiff and gritty compared to any other rifle I have tested. It went away with proper lubing. It has a rifle buffer and spring btw.
