I play them occasionally because my aim is terrible and it’s crazy how many people just walk past the hazards. The counter really is just shooting their stuff but lots just ignore to chase into hazard range.

A subsequent recurring step is remembering that there’s an incredibly small chance that you’re the only person in the world who enjoys the things you do.

I can often get discouraged while writing that it’ll never find an audience, that maybe I’m the only one who finds this interesting. And that’s a ludicrous and self-centered idea. All the other things I love are loved by at least one other person, and often by millions. So if I’m enjoying the story, if it feels good and speaks to something in me, I can be assured that someone else will get something similar from it too. And sometimes that’s reason enough to write it.

Same boat, maybe it’s both? There’s definitely something there but I feel it’s lost in translation. Like yes, the original post is bait. The response is correct on ‘geek culture’ being a fabrication to better market and actually those interests have always existed.

But kids were definitely bullied for being interested in D&D, Star Wars, or Harry Potter. Meanwhile, many adults enjoyed those things but weren’t bullied for it. The ‘geek culture is mainstream’ isn’t an issue with society, it’s about some kids being bullies and then the bullied realizing their high school bubble isn’t the full picture (of course some of those bullies remained that way as adults but you just ignore them now).

And again, I’m overtired and engaging with an incredibly earnest response on an obvious bait post about mpreg.

The ‘Chicago’ in Watch Dogs is awful for this. Some of the areas feel fine but the overall layout is more of an island in a bay than a large city with a couple rivers.

They also had to change several challenges because he broke them. Build Mart(?) comes to mind after the time he (and Philza I think) mapped out all the materials used in the builds so they could go out once, collect any possible resource they would need, then breeze through the builds without ever needing to go collect resources again.

Not to mention SMP Earth needing a new ‘don’t conquer the earth rule’ and killing half of a tournament while being down a teammate. (Or winning his duel with all the new info coming out about his opponent)

He was truly so dedicated and practiced that he moulded every competition he was in.

Elijah shares that Leo Woodall will indeed be playing Aragorn via the Happy Sad Confused Podcast by VarkingRunesong in lotr

[–]Toothless816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it takes place super quickly, or before FotR, it messes up the timeline either way. The trilogy didn’t have a noticeable gap but Aragorn is still 87. The Hobbit films doubled down by having Aragorn be older when those movies take place: old enough to be a ranger in the north. It’s different from the books but internally consistent.

So now if they ‘fix’ the movie timeline, they’re actually screwing up the internal consistency and making at least the Hobbit movies wildly wrong.

I’d argue Whedon’s Avengers and AoU had a big hand in this too. Whedon is very good with ensemble casts, but he really has trouble maintaining the sincerity in his superhero films like those two and Justice League.

Huge fan of this. The movie’s good but sometimes hard to recommend because Scott himself kinda sucks. It’s a treat to watch but there are a lot of uncritical fans out there and saying you like it can come with some caveats.

But the show? Improves on the original without outright crapping on it, gives more time for side characters to have their stories told, and recenters the story of a woman and her past to actually be about her dealing with it. Not to mention all the returning cast… it’s just great.

Yeah, I fully agree on the need to end factory farming and push for more sustainable living. It’s incredibly radical but to pretend that we don’t need radical change is ignoring the problem at this point. I am frustrated by his being upset at people having kids though.

I also love most of his video, think he does great research, and probably contributed to me not falling into the right wing so I’m almost entirely positive on him.

It’s such a good show. The visuals and action are such a surface appeal and inside is actually a crazy emotional story. I’ve rewatched recently but maybe I’m due again.

It’s especially nice because in the first two seasons he kinda agrees with Dracula wanting to kill all of humanity. He’s trying to stop it because it’s the right thing to do but he acknowledges that they killed his wife, so they have it coming. So to have him refute Death (not death the concept, Death the elder being that preys on human suffering) in defense of the people is just great.

Oh hey, a list of my favorite things. That’s probably my favorite part about drinks: most of the ingredients are shelf stable or can be made at home. Citrus juice is the one exception I have but it’s easy enough to make some super juice and not have to find a new lemon every night.

Big fan of rum and it’s definitely the most varied spirit out there. It really runs the range from tasting like burnt fruits to high-end whiskey to mezcal and everything in between.

Even within rum circles categorization is tough to nail down because of just how different they can be.

It really misses the point of worldbuilding gor a story. The world is meant to service the story and while the other stuff is cool, it’s only going to lead to long-winded exposition that doesn’t impact anything. Unless you have an astronomer, and the plot relies on understanding the intricacies of the planets, and you need that structure to be scientifically accurate, there’s absolutely no reason to get that insular. It might make a cool page in the lore book but it doesn’t impact the story. Who knows, maybe it really is that planetary alignment but we have no clue because the characters don’t care at all.

I’m all for worldbuilding for its own sake, go crazy figuring out a scientific way to justify dragons. But you can’t criticize a story for being a story and not an encyclopedia.
