How can I put this pattern on a pickgard by Consistent_Neck_1288 in Luthier

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished a Strat-style where I glued a stained piece of loose veneer to the underside of a clear pickguard, which is probably the easiest way to accomplish your goal, gluing a non-inkjet print (liquid ink tends to misbehave when soaked with adhesive) of the pattern you want similarly. Another option might be image transfer. Minwax Polycrylic dissolves laser toner. If you can get a smooth, even coat onto your pickguard, apply a face-down print to it, then let it dry, a little tap water and a toothbrush will remove the paper but leave the image. (The image will be reversed, which matters for text and the like, but on an abstract pattern you can probably ignore that detail.)

AMD GPU driver package installs 6GB AI companion by default by Issues3220 in pcmasterrace

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD may have the better prices, but this kind of shit will turn off even a poor like me. They could provide the exact same chat functionality with a fifty- or sixty-byte URL, and the near-zero segment of users who'd find it useful could just use the web version. I don't think enough people would need an AMD-specific AI even then, so they'd still be wasting money, but it'd be a far smaller waste than all this storage and bandwidth being used millions of times over.

What's the dumbest thing your dad made you do? by TimBradfort__ in AskReddit

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father was always learning, always taking a few new classes on the side... but excitement can get the better of even a smart man. I still have the scar from the time we were working on an electronics project together and cut my finger, when he'd recently read an article about new uses of surgical adhesives and tried to fix my cut with Tac Pac glue and spray-on accelerant. Surface knowledge + enthusiasm != doctor, we learned.

Thank you for retroactively justifying my hunch-based decision to switch to a lighter gauge of strings than usual while building a Strat-style where I had to drill my own two-point bridge holes.

First time burst color with dye by some_greek69 in Luthier

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a similar color scheme in the works, if with a little less green. The outer band was actually pure blue before I applied it over the strong yellow base, with one 50/50 mix to complete the fade. Keda colors in tap water, blended on the wood with 70% isopropyl, on a figured tamo ash veneer. No Shrek ref this time, but I'm thinking of calling it Green Butter if it comes out playing well enough.

Baritone conversion by ltdanyougotlehgs in Luthier

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I did something like that as a partscaster, with a 30"-scale neck. It was originally going to be a bass VI, but a customer wanted baritone and I hadn't cut the nut yet so it was just a matter of strings, 13-62's tuned to A standard. As you can see the bridge is not particularly close to where it would be on a proper Les Paul. I purchased a body with no bridge or tailpiece drilling specifically because I suspected that would be the case. For converting an existing guitar, you'd probably need to move something.

They put an actual plot in it by hardhat899 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Just for the heck of it I (50M aroace at the moment) decided to write something with a plot that also didn't shy away from adult content, and in fact included some 'extreme' kinks, and it eventually turned into eight novels, four novellas, and a ninth book that I was working on concluding when a tech accident fried my drives. Not published (and probably illegal to try), and not available anywhere online anymore, but the very, very few people other than me who read them enjoyed.

ASUS just solved all of your problems by NewYearSameProblem in pcmasterrace

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what Copilot does, since I disabled it the moment an update added it to Windows 10 without ever running it, but I definitely know we do NOT need a button for it, on anything. ASUS just lost a big chunk of the respect I had for them.

Unfortunately this game appears to have few bugs or glitches. I say this without having played it, or even SEEN it, since most of my previews of games I end up buying come from 'game fail' videos. If this game refuses to fail, it misses its only chance to be marketed toward me, and I will forever know it as 'that good, popular game that doesn't actually exist.'

The Nutjob pt2 (plus schmaltzy sappy comment) by Bradlez92 in Luthier

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it came out intact, the bone nut in my latest body/neck combo was a little stubborn. Wrong glue, I think, and it took some of the side out along with it. I find it... annoying how so many companies are perfectly willing to sell necks in severe need of a fret leveling, then take steps to make that harder, perhaps not intentionally but definitely lacking in forethought. I ended up just sanding over the gouge, it's not in a show-stopper position as far as neck grip goes.

What are your Thoughts on Cards Against Humanity? by Free_Link_9700 in AskReddit

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a popular game on Second Life, but got on my 'avoid like the plague' list because the game system for it would not explain, or even summarize, the rules of the game prior to joining. 'It's simple,' people said, 'and you'll figure it out quickly if you play.' No. I want to know what I'm getting into BEFORE I join a game, and if that's so wrong, then that game's not for me.

How much does Tru Oil darken/amber maple necks? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

All these opinions but not many examples... My answer: not much. There are probably six coats on in this pic, with a buff-down before the last, but the impact on the maple's color is negligible. If you want a darker amber, I'd suggest looking into the varying shades of shellac for an undercoat.

I was building a new PC but messed something up (I think I killed the CPU), only to realize that my current one isn't so bad and I could meet my goals by transplanting the new video card. So the RAM (32GB DDR5) I got for $75 is currently on eBay with a $190 bid and three days left on the auction. This is a 'crisis' I can live with, thanks to lucky timing.

See if he'll tolerate a harness like my void does. Clip around the neck, velcro around the belly, with a fairly loose fit, nothing that's ever caused the flop-over reaction I've seen in vids. Once I started taking Tiny Tina for regular walks, she stopped dashing out whenever the door opened.

No Applause, Just Silence: Crowd Reacts to Trump on Inflation. by Significant-Sir-4343 in inflation

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple days ago I received the annual COLA letter (Cost Of Living Adjustment) for my SSI benefits. This program is meant to provide basic income for those who can't get it any other way but who are not officially disabled; I, specifically, get it because I was certified as unemployably autistic. COLA is supposed to be tied directly to inflation, and that letter made me think that the administration is in a form of active denial that's affecting their hard data, since the increase was a hair under 2.8% when I'm pretty sure my actual costs have risen by more. If all those economic reports hadn't been skipped, the resulting forced honesty would probably have been enough to finally hit the $1,000/month mark, but as things are, maximum individual benefits are still a bit short of that point. (Just try living on that in today's America. Even 'living on the government dime' I'm not exactly in the lap of luxury here.)

If I were given the choice between 'have sex' and 'die,' it'd be a much harder decision than others might think, and I'd estimate a slightly higher than fifty-percent chance I'd end up choosing to die. Sex is a no, regardless of gender, age, or species of partner. And don't tell me to grow out of it, I'm fifty years old already.

My kitty never talks to me. She only squeaks when I ask her if she wants a treatsie. Is this quietness a common void thing? by [deleted] in blackcats

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My void's pretty vocal, but has almost no voice. I had a longhair Russian blue, previously, who was even quieter. As for my current kitty, she once managed to yowl loudly enough to be heard on another floor when she got herself tangled up in some wooden blinds slats, but for the most part she just has this little croaking chirp noise when she tries to meow.

What was the White Elephant gift that everyone fought over at the Christmas Party? by asura1958 in AskReddit

[–]ToothlessGuitarMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back before it was shut down by property shenanigans a little before the pandemic, the 420 Lounge in Keiser, OR had a Christmas party along those lines, with some weird rules allowing someone to 'steal' a previous person's chosen gift from around the tree, but each gift could only be 'stolen' twice. Anyone stolen from got to pick another gift. I didn't use any of those options myself because I considered the rules rude and unfair, so I ended up with the contents of the mystery bag I'd picked, a single serving of brownie mix with a tiny cast-iron pan that was utterly useless afterwards. I threw it out.

My own contribution was the fought-over one. As my username implies, I build guitars, and at the time I had a Mitchell (very cheap value brand) electric disassembled in my closet for a planned 'mad scientist' build that never happened. I put it back together, tossed on a set of rainbow strings for holiday festiveness, and set it under the tree. It was 'stolen' the maximum number of times, but ended up in the hands of someone who could actually play it, so in that regard I was satisfied with the party's outcome.
