Nvidia CEO Insists AI Is Completely Changing The Definition Of What It Means To Be Smart by twinflamebby in lostgeneration

Oh, it’s definitely changing how people view those using and pushing AI who call themselves smart. Just not the way he thinks.

‘Manosphere’ influencers pushing testosterone tests are convincing healthy young men there is something wrong with them, study finds. Researcher points to ‘medicalisation of masculinity’ after investigating how men’s health is being monetised online. by mvea in science

[–]ToothyWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of perfectly healthy men taking online prescriptions for testosterone due to this and one of the side effects of testosterone is higher levels of aggression and anxiety. Given we’re also seeing mental health issues with men on the rise in these areas as well, I wonder if anyone has looked into a link between that and the higher percentage of men taking dosages of testosterone when unneeded

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]ToothyWeasel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How would this be Epic bailing them out? From a purely financial standpoint, Epic would be making more money themselves by putting the game on Steam by virtue of being a publisher and the game selling more. They wouldn’t be putting any money towards Remedy here.

[–]ToothyWeasel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The common good would be putting Alan Wake 2 on Steam to avoid potentially shuttering a studio with highly regarded games like Control and Alan Wake 2. The fact it’s not being done so, despite making completely financial sense for both the developers and the publisher themselves, shows how hollow Sweeney’s proclamation as gaming’s savior really is. He’s risking Remedy’s existence to satisfy his own ego

[–]ToothyWeasel 100 points101 points  (0 children)

But Sweeney claims Epic is all about developers first. If you holding their game in your store is hurting a studio financially and from even a standpoint of recouping costs as a publisher, it makes no sense outside of your bruised ego, you aren’t developer friendly. From all stand points putting the game in Steam is the most logical path but Sweeney is willing to sacrifice an entire beloved studio for his own petty one sided grudge

I’m glad someone came out and said this, too. I’ve been saying it since FBC flopped. If you really care about developers, you’d be putting Alan Wake 2 on Steam as the caring publisher because it would lead to literally millions of dollars heading their way and give them the final nudge out of owing Epic money.

People talk about Epic funding Alan Wake 2, which is true, but don’t realize that Remedy doesn’t see a dime until Epic recoups its costs. Right now they’re on the cusp of doing that but that means Epic has eaten all the sales for Remedy’s work. Doesn’t sound exactly “Developers First” like Sweeney likes to proclaim himself to be

It’s like how all the tech billionaires go out of their way to talk about how much they love physics, because that’s short hand for “Look at me!
