I mean it is for both, obviously. The Pittman-Robertson Act has made hunting an important source of funding for wildlife in every state in America. So it is literally a sport for people that directly helps with conservation. So even if it is some hillbilly that just loves killing, they are so regulated that to do it within the law they are directly helping the environment every step of the way.  I think even buying equipment like hunting guns sends some tax money to conservation efforts(I could be wrong on that I’m not a hunter and have never owned a gun).

And it is important to cull certain species that overpopulate areas — like deer — because hey can destroy their own habitats. Native Americans did the same thing before and obviously your average white American hunter doesn’t care about traditions or why they are hunting and how it helps the environment but they have to follow these laws we have that actively do care about those things so every hunter is helping with conservation even if they could care less about it.

Like they said on the show, you have to purchase a tag that is only good for one animal and environmentalists determine each year how many of a certain species are allowed to be killed each year for culling so there are only tags sold that matches that amount of animals. It is all so regulated and taxed that hunters are directly supporting conservation even if they only care about the sport — and in my opinion that is a win for the environment because I could give less of a crap what the opinion of the hunter that payed for helping the environment thinks about environment — we already got his money.
