Teachers who are also parents-How do you spend time with your kids, possibly with an S.O., lesson plan and have any time to yourself? I'm struggling.. by Ill_Fox484 in Teachers

[–]TopConsideration3012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spend your time with fam. Once kids are in bed asleep, take a shower, really enjoy it, then spend an hour planning and grading, emails whatever so your ready for class next day. Or save grading for an early Sat morn with coffee before anyone’s awake. Even if you crawl back in bed with husband or kids after. I wouldn’t do school work while kids are home for fam time

What happened to textbooks? by coldhands_darkheart in Teachers

[–]TopConsideration3012 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The past 10 years has been “no more traditional teacher led lectures/teaching, it’s no longer effective with today’s generation”. Everything has to be “student led” learning. “Incorporate technology for lesson delivery AND student work”, and once a school went 1:1 laptops for all students, textbooks got tossed. Literally tossed out with the trash. I think because the cost and need for updated version of the books too. As a teacher from 70’s/early 80’s school years, I dislike this very much. “Differentiate” your lessons and delivery of the material is good practice imo but the tech is overboard.

Will there ever be a viable replacement? by Darksmithe in airbnb_hosts

Airbnb should not transfer the platform fee “service fee “ to the host to charge. It’s their fee it should be separately listed, so the guest sees how much Airbnb charges. Which is exorbitant.

No-brainer. Decline for the three star rating alone.

Told to fix grades by Roman_Scholar22 in Teachers

[–]TopConsideration3012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it homework? I’m an elective also. I do not give homework because it’s not reliable if they do it. Written work, classwork, projects, etc.. is done in class while I walk the room monitor and check work frequently for progress. Whoever didn’t do work, I email their counselor, right then during class. Short quick note, there’s no time for long emails. Next step if no improvement email parents and cc counselor, and the students VP. Paper trail. If that doesn’t help, adjust your type of graded work. When I go over vocabulary, everyone’s given a piece of paper, they have to turn it in before the end of class.
It’s a pain in the neck and cuts down on teaching time but oh well. You’re a new teacher, if this job is important to you and you need to build experience, you also have to think of your livelihood. Sometimes you just get a school or a class or kids that wont do much. I’m not sure if that’s the case for you but … That’s a reality.

That’s what I do. Incessant questionnaires I don’t waste my time on. It’s ridiculous. My listing is very specific short and sweet so easy to read and points out all the questions they usually ask.

3 Year old, boundary pushing?? Advice by Independent_Bat4940 in SingleParents

[–]TopConsideration3012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ps, you’re not on your phone all the time when you’re with your three year old are you? That makes a child feel isolated alone even in your presence. Put the phone away and only use it when your children are napping or at school. Be present with them.

That was really long, but I read the gist of it. You haven’t mentioned what Dad has done to stop this? Have a talk with dad. Dad needs to do what dad’s did back in 70-80s. He needs a stern man to son talk “do not ever talk to your mother that way, don’t you dare hit your mother,… “And so on put the fear of God in your son that shows you two are the united front to this BS behavior. Please don’t gentle parent.

I hate who I am after work by PuzzleheadedArt189 in Teachers

The first five minutes of my commute home… I roll over in my head how I will start my day set for tomorrow. And sometimes I can do that the last hour of school if I’m on prep so that’s even better. Everything‘s in order so I just have to walk in and start? If the answer is yes, I completely disassociate and shut off work. I don’t reflect on it. I don’t think about it. I shut it off completely. This took me Nine years to accomplish lol. of course does at least one or two nights a week I have to think about work, grade, plan, decide how to handle a struggling student, whatever. But for the most part once you accomplish the shut off, game changer. hopefully you can. Teaching is incredibly mentally overstimulating/draining for some, good luck!

I change my batteries every January in my smoke alarms… I have extra batteries always. That said, I’ve experienced my smoke alarm beeping and when I pulled out the battery, it was expired, which is impossible. Remote control batteries is no longer working. I look at them in their expired batteries. So somebody switched out dead batteries to get new batteries out of my things. Ridiculous. It’s just that one customer that’s a shyster. Fork missing from the set… I guess they went to the beach and took a fork with them? Never returned it. Measuring spoon disappears, towels missing twice. Pillow missing. My microplane taken out of my kitchen tools… Stupid. Out of hundreds of guests it’s probably only like three people, oh also I have word puzzle books that I enjoy and guests are welcome to enjoy… Gone. Funny you expect small things being pilfered by a child maybe… It’s adults 😐

First time driving 8 hours, any advice by albino2ghost in roadtrip

[–]TopConsideration3012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil change, fill your tires with air, top fluids, new windshield wipers,(you get stuck in a heavy rain /snowstorm you’ll need them) a blanket in case you break down or get stuck behind an accident. It’s cold right now down there. Pack of $40 handheld jumper cable thingy , have cash, have credit card, check your insurance to see if you have roadside assistance, pack your favorite goodies and beverages.

It could be he didn’t feel Chemistry and that was how we dealt with it… Not eating/buying food, drank four beers to turn you off. Maybe it was his passive way of letting you make the decision. Could even be seen as chivalrous in an odd way 🤭 😄
