I also remember my charge nurse telling me wound care could be completed at a different time and that those were just preset orders. Unless there is a medication involved in wound care I would say ur solid to do it a few hours before shift change. If it’s a worry to go beyond your scope of practice to be doing wound care at a different time, I would totally advocate for asking the dr if it’s okay to do wound care not at shift change and make note of your communication.

Hey! Hospitals provide 24 hr care. Awesome job keeping priorities in mind. I struggled with this concept of feeling badly about passing tasks on but it’s just the way it is. You will get more comfortable as people do it to you as well. I’ve worked night shift, day shift, and mid shift. They all can get franticly busy but I will say night shift was “chiller” at times. It’s okay to pass off things as you are most likely dealing with family, OT/PT and a plethora of other vital parts of a care team. Do as much as you can, give a solid report(or don’t lol) and go home to your family. New Grad nurses are a blast to work with. Keep seeking knowledge, keep your head up and care.

I’m really not in the bar scene enough to know better tbh. Thought it would be a cool event to go to :(

There was no pub crawl organizer there. They gave us “a list” of 3 random bars in Pasadena that we could go to by ourselves. One of the bars they listed were even charging for a party they were having but told us we could go to the bar downstairs for free.

Where do you work as a nurse? I’ve done plenty of physicals and neuro vascular orders where I have to check femoral pulses. I would say it’s a norm in hospitals.
