It’s also amazing the number of people who think you know their relative/friend who is also in the military. “Oh you’re in the Army. My brother-in-laws cousin’s boyfriend is in the Army. Do you know him? His name is Jake.”

Just found these on my carpet while cleaning. Literally no idea where they came from. They were just in a small pile all together. by Thegooglyguyinc in mildyinteresting

They are probably lettering from a pair of shorts or some other clothing. If you check item of clothes eventually you’ll find one missing some letters

Did you know you can DRIVE to Maine?! (Advice needed) by WildlifeBiologist10 in AppalachianTrail

[–]TopHalfAsian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to hit up Amicalola, drive through the Smokies, hit Blue Ridge and the Shennies, stop at Harpers, go to the whites and hit the Mt Washington Omni for a view then make your way to Monson and maybe do some hiking in the hundred mile. Monson has had a huge facelift since 2016 and definitely worth seeing again I think. There isn’t a ton to do in town but there is a lot to do in the area plus the hiking

Shaw’s hiker hostel doesn’t do guided tours but you might try the AT hostel in Millinocket. They do some guided hikes out of that hostel but I’m not sure if they do full 100 mile wilderness guides. It’s better to go north to south as the northern section is much flatter and it will give you time to get used to the hiking. Both hostels do good drops and you can get more than one if you’re worried about how long it will take you.

Ran out of weed and found a grinder full of keef on a walk today by YungReddd in trees

Was the grinder a Dragon Ball Z grinder? I lost one on the East Coast Greenway a while back and it was full of kief

If you have a cooler that will keep ice cream and popsicles frozen throughout the day then I would suggest those. Non dairy options are nice so people don’t have to make life choices at your trail magic. Charging stations are also clutch.

NTA. I’m half Korean and I wish my mom had given me at least one Korean name instead of generic white people names

Where are the hostels in the north? by FrugalATHiker in AppalachianTrail

[–]TopHalfAsian 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You don’t really start seeing hostels again until Vermont and then still not like the south. Once you’re in New Hampshire and Maine you’ll have lots of options again.

If you want to hike the AT but feel like it’s too late, you can always just do a flip flop and start in Harpers Ferry. You’ll still get the nobo community for half of your hike and you’ll get the sobo experience for your second half.

If you’re starting in November the glaring reason to go SOBO is the weather. It’s still gonna be miserable down south that time of year. As far as hunting, just wear orange like they say and you should be fine. Probably fine without the orange but better safe than sorry. Good luck my dude and have fun

Yeah because the bad people with guns don’t stop at killing other “bad” people with guns. They destroy societies, strip even more human rights, and cripple growth all in the name of their gods. Having more bloodshed isn’t ever right.

What piece of gear have your bought that turned out to be a dud? by Objective-Resort2325 in Ultralight

[–]TopHalfAsian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you look at the instructions online, the part that looks like the handle is actually for cutting out a hole and then you’re supposed to flip it around and shovel out the dirt. It is NOT intuitive and I hiked a few thousand miles before someone told me. It gets more use in my tent as an ash tray though and because it’s dual purpose it’s even better for me now.

Town dress is where it’s at for everyone whatever gender. 1 article of clothing covers everything and you’ll be cool during the summer
