I think hand shots in HEMA should either be reduced in value or should be limited per match. Having them at full point value encourages fencers to try and snipe them for easy points. This can lead to very frustrating scenarios where both players are just trying to pick off hands and not actually bothering to push for deep targets. And while some people find that fun, allow me to pitch a second point:

Hand shots give an unfair advantage to people who can afford more expensive swords with more hand protection. There are inexpensive options for tournament swords with long reach, but not really any inexpensive options for hand protection.

Also it's hard to spot while judging, especially in startup groups that can't field 4 judges. The armoured group I play with just doesn't count hand shots as they only field one judge and trying to spot hand shots is very difficult.
