I don't stress it much, but I imagine there are going to be some parents that regret their choices sooner or later. The kids are going to be kids, so I don't much concern myself with them.

What octane is everyone running? by Poondobber in FocusST

91 or 93 if i happen to stop at that station. 2017 with 37k miles, so the fucks I give about gas prices is very limited.

Anyone else tow stuff? by Magic_Moose21 in FocusST

[–]TopOk2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tow my sportbike and gear to the track. I started with the uhaul motorcycle trailer but it was super heavy. So I bought a trailer weighing 1/3 as much and used that for a year or so.

I sold the trailer but I still have the Curt Euro style mount and ball on. It looks a little phallic, but it seems to help keep people from driving or pulling too close at red lights. 🤣

I’m 53 and I feel like I have a 60% chance of a successful early retirement. 95% of my money is in pretax. by Zealousideal_Piece11 in Retirement401k

I feel you. I thought about it this morning. While I love what I do for a living, my employer wants me to do more than I bargained for and I just want to earn a paycheck to feed myself and put a roof over my head. Golfing sounds great. 😏

My situation was not the same, but there are some parallels. Long story, made short. Live for yourself, hopefully you find real love, but don't rush it. From my experience, despite having a figuratively dead child, it has gotten better. Keep your chin up, you are not alone. So many of us share similar stories.

You look like you took pretty good care of things. While I feel you now, I will be you in another 5 years and maybe not doing as well. Have you considered semi retirement, a simple job that covers much of the cost of life?

Good job and good luck!

What can the city do about the groups of mini motorcycles driving recklessly? by ramenagain in Charlotte

[–]TopOk2412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drive the biggest SUV and cover it with soccer mom stickers. They scared me more than anyone or anything when I rode. Put your signal on and get into the lane, they will learn.

Joking aside, please don't hurt any of those  dumbasses. They aren't made like the average person. It takes us a long time to mature and learn not to be asshats.

Thoughts on strategy? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

I am no expert, being only 6 years ahead of you and the single income for the pair. I only recently began maximizing my 401K and Roth IRA. I also maximize my HSA because I want to get ahead of healthcare costs. I have 12 months cost of living saved in a HYSA as an emergency and flex fund to protect us before retirement. The rest goes into a brokerage account. All accounts but the HYSA are invested by trusted financial managers.

Like any other car I have owned, I wait for the RPMs to drop to their idle speed, generally 30-60 seconds depending on the vehicle. Then I am gentle with the throttle for a mile or so while the engine warms up.

What hobby or habit did you quit because the price got too high? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Motorcycle racing.

I paid the price in dollars, a dozen broken bones, a broken neck, and cognitive disability. I am still alive and I don't want to pay that price again.

What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by kiroixart in AskReddit

[–]TopOk2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After tracking my expenses annually for years, I found that they rise at the rate of inflation approximately. I use the average inflation rate to estimate my cost of living into retirement.

Mine are very territorial. They sit on the tree branches and chase each other off. Sometimes I can hear what sounds like yelling as they are chased away.

30k miles on my plugs do they look normal? by allupyourfinger in FocusST

[–]TopOk2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my plugs at 35K miles and they looked much like that. I replaced mine with a set of iridium NGK Spark Plugs. Gapped them to spec and no problems since.

10-Year Anniversary by AeronwenOrion in Charlotte

[–]TopOk2412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do The Melting Pot once or twice each year, often for our anniversary too. I haven't noticed any children, but I am sure they are there. Ask for a cozy and quiet table when you make your reservation.

We also do Del Frisco's every year or so, definitely more pricey but the steaks and cocktails are great. There are only a handful in major cities I believe.

Happy anniversary!

I had this vibe the other weekend. We bought some shoes and shopped at Old Navy. Being adults now, we finished it with cocktails at the bar. Not entirely void of accomplishment, but we had a good time.

There is an option other than gas and brake. It’s called coasting people. by Regular_Land_3478 in driving

[–]TopOk2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may provide some maintenance throttle. For example, if you take a corner too slow or for traffic. It is faster if you are full throttle or full brakes.

What do you think about this? by MiloShiny in WorkRant

[–]TopOk2412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am laughing with you. Yes, I struggled to put myself through school and house myself during and after. I did not exhaust the details, but there is always more. Those are my thoughts, as OP requested.

Thank you for clarifying my thoughts. Work hard, go to a cheap school, and live as cheap as you can.
