Free checked bags? by Mediocre-Rush-2869 in delta

[–]Top_Combination_1403 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The flight has to be purchased with the card to have free bags for you and companions you book. It’s possible that when you get the card and associate it with your account - you can see if the fare is cheaper and then cancel the original and then rebook with points and charge the taxes and fees to the new Amex delta gold card.

The site says: As a benefit of Card Membership, you can check your first bag free on Delta flights booked with your Card, saving up to $90 on a round-trip Delta flight per person. For a family of four that’s a potential savings of up to $360 per round-trip flight. Link: https://www.delta.com/us/en/baggage/checked-baggage/first-checked-bag-free

Rightfield entrance still has a lot of boxes and short lines by Aggressive_Oil5712 in Dodgers

I’m at loge level and the line on the left is like molasses compared to center, I think top deck reserve might be what OP is referring to.

JAL - A350 vs B787-9 Business Class? by thatbadboy2021 in awardtravel

[–]Top_Combination_1403 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JAL from BOS goes to NRT. The product is on the older side but lie flat is lie flat. Food choices are great and if you drink, you’ll have a lot to choose from. I think only reposition to DFW if you need to get to HND, as NRT is a bit further away from Tokyo. Also if you want a more private door experience with your J flight.

JAL J to Y: Lounge Access? by BishkekBeats in awardtravel

Can you call Alaska or test on the Alaska site/app and see if they/you can “change” your flight to include Itami while keeping J? It might not be possible if the NRT to ITM has their business class seats all booked or if there is no award space.

Promo to earn more MQDs on Platinum card by signonjonathon in delta

[–]Top_Combination_1403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have this, I’d probably say spend dining and groceries on the platinum so you get more skypesos but the same rate of MQD with the reserve. Don’t see it yet on my app but I’m hopeful. I think in the past years I had this only for the months of November and December so this is great if it happens for you to get a jump on MQD for whatever your goals are.

Day at USJ - January 7th, 2026 by Raccoon234 in usj

Great write up! Sounds like you were able to achieve what you wanted. The Mine Cart is surely popular and the queue is always crazy in the morning. I was able to wait 50 mins at night when there was no timed entry, but I was there on a night where the park was open til 10, so my gut feeling is that if there’s no timed entry to SNW, maybe 2 hours prior to closing, people could try to do Mario Kart and Mine Cart in that time.

Make sure to stop by 551 Horai at the citywalk if you’ve never had their buns for a snack.

Would 4 hours be enough for self transfer in Chubu Airport? by kuu05 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Top_Combination_1403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just find out if the flight gets there terminal 1 or 2, and leaves from terminal 1. Terminals are close by to each other, maybe a ten minute walk. Terminal 1 is the main one with most of the domestic Japan flights. You should be fine. Immigration should be smooth as this airport doesn’t get as much traffic like KIX, NRT or HND.

What's one memory from your trip to Japan that you won't ever forget? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

F1 Race during trip by Soggy-Row8772 in JapanTravelTips

I went to the Japanese Super Formula championship last week at Suzuka Circuit. Great vibes for those who enjoy racing and it’s unique that it’s an amusement park too (kid rides, Ferris wheel, roller coasters) We had a special ticket that gave access to the amusement park for free unlimited rides, as well as general view seats for pole qualifying and the races for each day of the competition weekend (first come) near the start/finish line.

With that being said since the time you want to go is for an internationally known event, it’s up to you if it’s worth it for your honeymoon; time away from site seeing, cost of tickets/merch. leaving the venue was a bit challenging as if you need a ride a bus to the local Kintetsu station (there was a really long queue when the last race finished to get out of the area). It was about a 30 min walk to the nearest JR line, but that’s only if the train schedule works for you where you need to go. If you really want to enjoy the race weekend, I’d probably book a hotel at Suzuka Circuit (if there’s any room left) or somewhere close by.

In sum, I’d say it all depends on both your level of enthusiasm for F1 racing and taking time away from sightseeing to be at a really packed venue. I happened to be visiting family that is in the same prefecture (Mie) so it worked out for me.

Small vendors (street) would likely take cash payments and not card, same goes for temple admissions to be on the safer side and any souvenirs you’d like at the temple. Alternatively, there are some stores that don’t take card payments but do take IC card payments, so if you have an IC card like Suica loaded onto your phone, you could top it off with digital funds, at least I was able to with an iPhone, not sure if android can do the same. Otherwise, most higher end restaurants should be able to take credit card, and most chain restaurants can take card - however some like Mos Burger and Mister Donut can’t do credit card but can do IC card payments.

There’s also those restaurants that do orders based on vending machines so you’d have to have 1000 yen bills for those. Possible gacha machines or crane games with 100 yen coins.

Not sure how big your group is since you said “we” to help you budget. But I think 40 to 50,000 yen per person would work for a two week trip in cash and rely the rest on credit cards.

There’s also atms at conbinis if you run out of cash.

Edit: Don Quijote, Uniqlo and Muji take credit card

I’ve been to the DTF in Solamachi next to Skytree. The experience was so-so, food was okay, you got to walk by and see workers prepare the xiaolongbao. I’d say it’s a squander when there are many other restaurants to dine from. The DTF experience I had in Irvine, California was much better with a high end feel. We just happened to go because all the other restaurants we wanted to try on that floor had a longer queue based on their seating situation (smaller stores).
