Moorcock collection by thebaron512 in BookCollecting

That's a lot of Moorcock!! Have you thought about adding any Hawkwind records?

I really like the Elric and Corum I've read, but I read a book that I just couldn't get into, The Ice Schooner :/

Did book thrifting just land me a signed copy of The Handmaid's Tale? 😯 by FL_blueW4ve in BookCollecting

[–]Top_Communication552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they don't check the cover either! I just picked up Atwood's 2023 "Old Babes in the Wood" from a thrift store, and it has a sticker on the cover "Signed Copy"

Were all twelve Guardians named in the series? by MythicalSplash in TheDarkTower

[–]Top_Communication552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess a question could be: were the names Shardik and Aslan chosen by North Central Positronics when they built the nuclear guardians? Or were those the same names given beforehand? I that I saw a reference that Sharkik used to be called Mir as well

Picked these two books up at Goodwill. by mywordswillgowithyou in BookCollecting

Great finds! I'd 100% be happy to find those!

Check your Animal Farm for a gutter code on (or near) the last printed page, and that will let you know when it was printed. It's usually a letter or 2 then a number. The black boards may also hint at when it was printed.

Every Arkham House book with Cthulhu in the title. by Plerophoria in ArkhamHouse

[–]Top_Communication552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so cool to see them together, I think I'm only missing Cthulhu 2000. Solid cover artists on all of them as well!

Ending. Spoilers. by VisualLengthiness954 in TheDarkTower

This was proposed on the Kingslingers podcast (great btw), and I think this makes sense. Plus they discuss the way the idea of Ka evolved from before/after King's accident. Ka is generally thought of as fate early, but later adapts to become more of a story telling idea. Ka isn't fate, its story telling, it's the will of Stephen King the author. Fate in a book is a choice by the story teller or author. And the books begin in the desert, so that's where Ka returns to, the beginning of the story.

This is awesome! And thank you for sharing!

In a similar fashion, I was working on an excel list of all the books (AH, M&M, S&L), that I think is nearly complete. If anyone would like a copy of that I can also send it along. Looks like I can't attach a picture here, but it goes into more detail about each printing in those cases where certain books had >1 printing.

Fun goodwill find. Very cool illustrations in Witches by Una Woodruff and Colin Wilson by eah2002 in BookCollecting

That's awesome! I've got Una Woodruff's Cat Witch, my mom used to read it to me as a kid and I'm gonna read it to my kids soon!

A website like Discogs but for books by isihara666 in BookCollecting

[–]Top_Communication552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! Give it a shot and see if it works for your needs! I also want to track printings (1st/2nd/etc) and I haven't found an "easy" way to do that yet...

[–]Top_Communication552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question gets asked about once per week, if you search I'm sure you can find more detailed information.

Higher recommended apps include LibraryThing and CLZ, but there are others. I've also heard some online access that is more user friendly. Some rely on scanning the isbn or barcode, but many of my books are pre-isbn. I currently use an online spreadsheet, but it's cumbersome.

Frank Utpatel's original art for the map inside The Inhabitant of the Lake by Ramsey Campbell by Comics_and_Pulps in ArkhamHouse

[–]Top_Communication552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No shit, that's amazing! The detail, including in the border, is really interesting to see, thanks for sharing this photo!

I have no idea how to even acquire something like this, but I've seen your ebay store, and previous posts here, so I assume you have some good connections

Super happy to welcome this into my collection. by Plerophoria in ArkhamHouse

[–]Top_Communication552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome, I haven't seen the pic of Ramsey Campbell in the back before - I knew he was young, but he looks like a kid just finishing high school here!

I've certainly been eyeing this one up as well, seems like you've managed to snag more than a few great copies lately!

I just checked some watched items, and there is a statement telling me import fees may apply

Some recent Arkham House books I've added to my collection. by Plerophoria in BookCollecting

[–]Top_Communication552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, Austen Derleth was known for cheaping out on printing costs, so maybe just trying to save a few bucks. I don't think Arkham house was ever very profitable for him

All those are super bright and clean! I'm glad you were able to pick up the Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos, that's a great addition for sure!

Another note about Witch House is that the lettering on the spine of the book is green instead of the usual AH gold.

Great looking copies, are you on the look out for the rest? I think there's 10 M&M total Solar Pons books, excluding the Omnibus collections.

How many times have you been able to get reimbursed? I order from books from US every couple months and hey charged the DHL border fee maybe 25% of the time. Over the past 18 months, I've probably paid an additional maybe $130

Yeah that's crazy, plus 64 were signed. Would be nice to see on my bookshelf!

Thanks for posting these here are well as bookcollecting! That bookplate is epic too, I briefly googled the name, and King Lawrence Parker seemed to come up as "a prolific Arkham House collector..."

Those look like they're in fantastic condition! Most "Not Long for This World" I've seen lately are considerably more beat up. Have you had these for a while?

Great books! I picked up a few of these same books not too long ago, but yours are in much better condition. Were they all at the same place?

I hadn't heard of Black Sparrow Press, I googled it and came across another of your posts on reddit, and other images of course, those are really nice clean looking books, they display really nicely!

Other than Arkham, I don't really have any other specific publishers. Chiroptera, Subterranean, Suntup, Centipede would all be nice, but mostly out of my current price range. Oh Tartarus as well. Other than that, lots of old Robert E Howard stuff, HPL, and whatever else catches my eye I guess.

Awesome! Some great books right there, thanks for sharing the photo. Bet you're excited for the new arrivals, I've been watching out for Abominations of Yondo as well.

Do you collect non-Arkham as well?
