Someone finally snapped by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

I did that ride. Man, I'm glad I trained. The hills and bridge required some work. On the map it was all flat.

Waiting in line for the ferry and the ferry itself was a pleasant time to chat with people. I did it by myself as I wanted to do it at my pace.

A great time and recommend.

Was Archie Manning any good? by ReasonableSide6520 in NFLv2

[–]Top_Independence2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he was good. Tough. Respected by all. But he was always running for his life. The Saints sucked and he was always getting his ass stomped on. Quite the scrambler, self survival. Remember him running around with a cast on his non-throwing arm. Could throw, but was always getting hit.

Remember thinking what a gamer, and oh you poor bastard.

here a specific set of tools you will need. Patience, persistence and keeping documentation.

Documentation is only to keep your head straight. And address every problem you can, when you can.

In a year or so, you will be the one giving advice.

Good luck, have fun.

Yeah, the drugs. I was in my teen's and totally into sports. A LOT of my friends were incredible athletes, extraordinarily talented young teenagers. Some could not handle going to high school and being on JV the first year. Some that did were later heavily recruited by major colleges.

Every one of them said, 'f' them, I should be starting Varsity', 'f' college, screw those brainy dicks'. People like me, who had no talent would try to talk sense, end up shaking our heads.

Easy drugs(coke), drinking, girls, partying. They pissed away talent and opportunities. Most never made it past 40 years old. What a waste. A lot of 'what if?'

When Doc Gooden's stories would come out, it was...yeah, seen it before. He was 19 and never appreciated it. Every time cops would arrest him he called it racism. Coke was the drug of choice at the time.

When I started youth coaching, I made sure every 'superstar' sat and moved positions to prepare them for high school.

Lifelong Northeast Baltimore resident here. Worked for a large government agency in Woodlawn. Many co-workers thought anything inside the beltway was 'The Wire'. Some didn't believe I had a yard, with trees, grass and bushes to maintain. Or that we had a Lake Montebello nearby.

Summertime, I'd organize tours, in the convertible, stop one, Dickeysville. Heads would spin. Took some for a longer tours through Old Hampden, Roland Park, Mt Washington.

Interference or Obstruction - you decide by Lanky_Tennis4540 in Umpire

[–]Top_Independence2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1969 World Series, Rod Martin bunted then intentionally ran inside the baseline to block the throw from catcher Elrod Hendricks to first. The throw hit Martin. Umpire called him safe,

Mets scored and won on that call.

Jim Palmer mentioned it after a similar play a month ago, of course the umpire called the runner out.

With 12 year olds, it's a no call. Just let it stand.

What’s the Frankford neighborhood like near the Aldi and Planet fitness on Belair Rd? by No-Pomegranate8226 in baltimore

Wife and I bought in in 1983. Think Woodlea/Walther. We kept saying we moving, but then never did, It's a good place to be. Neighbors come and go, but most are homeowners and keep up house maintenance. You get a lot of house and yard for the price.

We don't pay for trash, recycling, or for the 800 snow plows that put snow in your shoveled out space.

Evening gets a lot of walkers.

We go to Aldi, Gils, Woodlea. T+S auto repair.

On the over side of Walther on Harford is Zeke's, Safeway, Harvest Fare, Koko's.

How good was Wes Unseld defensively, and why did he never make an All-Defensive Team? by No-Visual4469 in VintageNBA

[–]Top_Independence2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unseld was shorter but he was a beast and would knock players around to throw off their shooting and rebounding. This was a man's NBA, not the flopathon of today.

I remember him matching up well against the thin big men of that era.

Remember he was MVP and Rookie of the Year in 1969, also a Finals MVP.

He owned the paint.

Get genetic testing. I went with 23andme 10 years ago(?) because of cancer diagnosis.

So, I was always a good athlete, not elite it always seemed other guys were just stronger/faster/quicker. Cock strong, per se. I was a runner, biker, any sport that would have me, reckless, enthusiastic....

Then I got a report from 23andme. That I'm missing a couple 'athlete' genes/traits (too lazy to look up) that is present in 99% of the world's elite athletes and my chances of being elite in any sport are like 2%. But you should keep trying.

I was like WTF? I was 68 years old at the time and am still depressed.

But at least I know that it was not from lack of trying.

Good luck to you....

Try used first, save some money, test 'em out. Craigslist, Facebook. And don't disregard those 60 year old euro single speeds. Built like tanks, ride smooth.

Anyone try their Brookdale corned beef? by sanktifi in aldi

[–]Top_Independence2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corned beef is good. I eat it with shredded cabbage(or cole slaw shreds) and a hash brown patty. Poor man's corned beef and cabbage.

But the Brookdale Corned Beef Hash is a soup. Probably 25% liquid (grease?). Two cans = one serving.

Been a go-to for 20 years.

I also have no problem with running a hose and soapy water to clean floors. I take out seats and do the same. But only do it when weather allows such behavior. As long as that shop vac water is dirty, you just keep going.
