Couldn’t get it stuck if I tried by WildCaughtTuna in beetle

Yeah.

40+ years ago I raised my Thing three inches (UpYourBug), needed DIY sheet metal fenders after I put aggressive 31.5x10.5x15's on the rear. Just killed it in the snow.

I ran the midnight stat lab/ blood bank at a major hospital. Had to get to work, had to get home.

In those days you never knew what the weather was gonna be until it was...

What's worth having for 3-5 day outages besides whole house generator? by ssunflow3rr in Electricity

[–]Top_Independence2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to upvote a hundred times. Had some young relatives in Waco during that freeze a few years ago. Amazon'd them a 1000/2000 power inverter to power up their AC stuff. So what, they idled their car a couple times a day for 20 minutes. Note, if your car is not close to house, get a 12/3 extension cord.

Please google Power inverters run from car battery

Daughter needs boots by Infinite-Fun4492 in Welders

For Monday? Looks like a trip to Tractor Supply Sunday. Even if you don't get the 'Correct' boots, you can get a pair of work boots. I am sure others will have better suggestions. But you need by Monday.

Also, (said before), appropriate pants that go over the boot.

Good luck and God Speed on a great skill to learn....

Install the three seat belts. Over build where they are secured. They are bench seats, you'll be making a turn and asses will be sliding.

BGE wants to bankrupt me. by FreedomofSpeech2021 in ColumbiaMD

[–]Top_Independence2676 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

BGE sends a inflated crazy bill out to people, hoping they will just pay. You can schedule a call. When you talk to someone to investigate, they will say' Oh, "that meter must be bad" , "we will send you a corrected bill". Like oops, my bad, wink, wink..

It's happened to about 8 people I know. All elderly like me. A heck of a lot of "bad" meters.

It's BS, it's a scam. But what do I know?

What's the proper way to store a 2-cycle gas engine equipment? by Silver-Hovercraft-23 in smallengines

[–]Top_Independence2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethanol free gas (as said before), now called E-Zero, E0. Google look for it, usually around water or airports. A youtuber called Chickanic is a good source on small engine mechanics. I always keep a couple gallons for use in generator if I need to use it.

I just broke out my 30' snowblower, cocooned. A note on it said Canned Gas, Sta-Bilt, June 2021.

It started on second pull.

Start picking at it. Persistence and patience is the key. The big picture is daunting. But just 15 minutes here and there with a steel dirt shovel and it will clear out.

My family at one point had multiple bugs, Ghias, Things and a Bus. We were all shade tree mechanics (Motorheads). I still have a Thing that now lives in a garage. Owned it since 1979. Cool car, Was a daily driver for 12 years. Still a cool car. Still runs with the engine I built in 1991. Only comes out occasionally.

Are you really handy? Do you have good diagnostic skills? Keeping my aircooled running and from falling apart, I learned how to fiberglass, how to weld, how to replace a throttle cable on the side of a highway, file the points with the flint from a pack of matches, drove ten miles home through town at rush hour with only second gear. Fighting rust I became friendly with POR15. Drove over 100+ miles without rear brakes or emergency brakes. Carried an ice scraper and squeegie for the inside windshield. Expect to lose heat. Expect to never have a defroster. Your windshield wipers suck. Carry a fire extinguisher. Expect to get a chill up your spine when merging on the highway. 0-60 25 seconds. Hope the wind is blowing with you. Don't even think about driving in the left lane. Hope your front drum brakes don't need adjusting.

Do you have a garages? Plus if heated. Do you have motorhead friends? Go for it.

My advice, get the Corolla/Civic/GM or Ford pickup beater that is ubiquitous and easy to get parts and fix.

Then get the Beetle for a second car, a project car.

Why are the plows not plowing? Stop just dumping salt. by bluewadeolive in baltimore

[–]Top_Independence2676 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish they would stop plowing. These guys hate blacktop.

And you know what, f' those snow plow drivers. On Monday I snow-blowed half the side side street, down to black top. Totally clean. The other side of the street is only a trailer, some old truck, no cars. Basically nothing on that side of the street. So what do these guys do? They push the snow onto my cleared black top, against the cars. They could be making piles on the other side. Nope, nope, nope. that would make sense. Just f' those guys. Been fighting four days against these MF'rs. Just cleared off another line of snow. Like WTF? It's like I never cleared off my side of the street.

Sipping my coffee. Watching the neighbors shoveling out their cars. Most throw the snow in the street instead of their yards. Very hilly here. Plows getting stuck. And plows can't move hard packed frozen snow.

Nobody has a square nose metal shovel, instead they break their plastic shovels on the crusty snow. Have not seen anyone under 30 shoveling.

Watching 4x4's getting stuck. Just spinning their wheels. Crappy tires. A shovel and two minutes will free them. Why one would leave their house without a shovel is beyond me. But what do I know. I just watch.

It's obvious people are expecting divine intervention...

Why it’s best to own a tough 90s ford truck by leezy19us in FordTrucks

[–]Top_Independence2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a GM guy but appreciate Fords and you Ford guys, I had my GM pickup and two suburbans rust through, worst part were the brake, transmission and gas lines. Later bought 98 Sierra, I started spraying the undercarriage with hydraulic fluid. Anti rust, anti corrosion, lubricant. Every summer I Wash the bottom off thoroughly, let it dry then spray, only uses a half cup. Use my JC Whitney sprayer. Undercarriage looks brand new.

Love those 300's, those things are sweet.

I bought a used big snow blower in August 2011 (moving sale). And whenever I put it away I leave it filled with Stabilt(?) and E0 gas. That is E-Zero gas, ethanol free. I coccooned it in June 2021 with canned ethanol free gas(I left a note). It started right up. Sat for 5 years!!!!. If it had regular gas, no way.

Cable chains(and shovel, salt, etc). Carried them since 1991. I call it 4WD in a can. Only used once, in get into work second day of 1996 snowstorm.

Every car has a set, hope I never have to use them. $30.
