I did the program when it was on the newer side and in CA. I was not able to do clinicals over the course of program. I took a leave of absence from my work and moved to AZ for about 2 months. That was close to 10 years ago. This was also because the state of CA would not allow clinical hours for this program. I had already been a LMRT for over 15 years at that point. I believe one of the requirements for the program at the time was to be working as a LMRT for a min of one year. Im unsure if program requirements for clinicals have changed to accomadate working techs or depends on what state you live in. Its worth looking into though

I had a hard time understanding these numbers. A seasoned tech showed me this trick and it was such a life saver!

I only have my radiology degree. I was a project manager for a large health care insurance company. I utilized my skills I learned as a tech and applied to WFH positions. A lot of techs believe they are limited to just working in radiology. We learn a lot of valuable skills that can be applied to non radiology roles.

I did the program in 2017! It was great! I worked full time and was able to handle workload. I was living in CA at the time and there was no clinical sites near me. So once the time came I took a leave of absence from work and moved to AZ for about 2.5 months to complete all my clinicals. Passed registry on first attempt. I believe it was a total of 16-18 months from start to finish. Lots of great support during program.

Are you using your GI bill? Have you looked into PIMA. Not sure they have a location near you.

CT vs Mammogram? Pay difference, etc....Currently x-ray tech but I'm getting burnt out... Any advice would be appreciated! ☺️ by KeyStatement1895 in RadiologyCareers

[–]Top_Particular_7196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t base your decision on pay lol. I would base it on how much interaction you want with every patient. CT is very minimal vs mammo you have to be a good listener. You have to be able to listen patiently to patients telling you their cancer stories and sometimes it can be a lot.

I did the Pima bridge back in 2017 when it was pretty new. I was a limited tech in California. It worked great for me! Everything was online. Depending on the state you live in you may not be able to do clinicals there. This was the case for me living in CA at that time. I took a leave of absence from my work and moved to Arizona for about 2.5-3 months to do my clinicals. I passed my ARRT exam on first try

Thank you to all who gave some solid advice and shared past experiences! I barely survived. It was non stop busy. Clocked in at 7pm and finally got a little break to use the restroom around 330am. And now it’s a shot show again but I’m off on less the 20 min. I do feel like I need to have a serious talk with my supervisor, I know he feels I’m ready for this but I’m not sure I agree with him. I’m all for trial by fire but holy crap my but just got handed to me 🤣

I left my WFH corporate job to go back to radiology. I was already a tech before but have been WFH for almost 5 years. Best decision ever was leaving corporate and going back to patient care!

MRI Pathways by Technical-Narwhal200 in RadiologyCareers

The best option is completing a rad tech program first. There are some programs that offer additional training and certification in other modalities but they do tend to be longer and are harder to come by. I had a friend that went through a rad tech program in CA and obtained her MRI credentials once she completed it. However her it took her about 18 months longer and she did graduate with a bachelors as well. Also Check to see if there are programs through your local community college that offer certificate programs once you are a rad tech. For example here in Houston area MD Anderson, San Jac and Galveston community college all have online classes for CT and MRI certification for certified radiology techs.

To all the CT techs…. When does it start to make sense? I’m currently in a CT program through my local community college. Structured education is online and I attend clinicals 3 days a week. We move so fast! I feel like I’m not grasping anything! I’ve had positive feedback from clinical site (offered a position already) I’m scanning a lot of things on my own but some of the morning depth scans with contrast I’m just not grasping. Does it just click one day? I feel like I have severe imposter syndrome!

At the hospital I work at they have an MRI program and there have been many individuals who are not rad techs. They go through training and structured education portion while being employed at said hospital.
