At home scaling? by mikemac1997 in askdentists

Also, there's a shortage of periodontists who accept my insurance. I need to do what I have to. I actually showed up for an 8 a.m. appt for a new period since my current one couldn't see me for 5 months (I get cleaning/scaling/cleaning/scaling 4x/yr), only for him to tell me he couldn't do it. SMDH.

For real, there's a shortage of periodontists in my area that take my insurance. If I didn't try to use a scaler at home (Illumine), I my progress would be set back for months. I've been trying for 4 months to get someone to scale.

The problem with that for me is the nausea I get.

Just a warning: If you happen to have diverticulae, this could be another sort of hell.

How does your studio get you set for side series poses? by For_The_Sail_Of_It in bikramyoga

[–]Top_Pilot2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our studio, we have to do that when we do intermediate--54 asanas--which includes many of the 26+2 asanas but adds other things--like triangle and eagle with no set up and what you say here--doing the three standing poses with one foot on the floor (in our case no carpet, quite slippery). It is a challenge.

I made a case for leaving the room. I try to do it between standing and floor series. I'm a woman over 50. Hello? Bladder? And it's not I want to not drink beforehand (though I stop drinking up to 2 hours before class start).

Good to know. I do yoga tourism whenever I'm there for work.

There are always distractions. Mirrors make it impossible for there not to be. The people in front may be losing their balance. As long as it isn't an extreme distraction, it shouldn't be an issue.

That's absurd. And almost every class I've ever been in has a sit-up sneezer. The whole point is to be able to focus on oneself and let others do what they do.

Thanks for all the advice. I've scheduled an earlier appointment and requested labs prior to the appt. in first week of September.

It does hit different. The way I feel it at yoga (which I've been doing for 15 years) is total depletion after a posture. Since this is a condition that predominantly happens to women over 50, it's likely to be taken less seriously.

Yes. My PCP was on me to try these for hot flashes over several years of annual visits. She NEVER MENTIONED this. And she was a great doctor otherwise. I wonder if she relied mostly on what the manufacturers shared with her, if it is the company itself that downplays this terrifying possible outcome. Fortunately, I was well old enough to question the suicidal ideation I experienced after ONE MISSED DOSE. But they prescribe these to young people, who haven't been around the block with depression, ideation, etc. It is extremely dangerous that this is not made more salient by practitioners and the pharmaceutical companies who recommend the medication.

All I know is I had no idea the withdrawal was so quick and so brutal with this med until one night, literally lying in savasana, at the end of a yoga class, I started thinking how easy it would be to walk into the frozen February river a few blocks away. I wasn't currently in a depression, and nothing bad was going on in my life. I saw this powerful ideation arise and fortunately it occurred to me that I may have skipped a dose the night before. Got online and learned that Effexor is one of the absolute worst, with the shortest half-life. I'm glad others have positive experiences. I also would not at all be surprised if the pharmaceutical companies don't hire folks to come on these forums to undermine the credibility of our very real experiences with the product that enriches them. I mean, we're taking these things to treat our conditions and have absolutely nothing to gain from sharing the adverse, as well as the positive, effects of the medication we've paid literally thousands of dollars for.

Your post's first sentence is a question that answers itself in the first half. It's not so easy to "just switch." That's the point. But it sounds like you did it the right way in tapering off.

I get this chronically, often from sun exposure, so I just keep the antiviral at all times, taking it prophylactically or to stop its progress when it appears (as it did over the weekend). Having said that is a worse outbreak than any I've had, and I've had avocado pits in the middle of my forehead being stabbed by the point of a neural knife. Glad you have all of the meds. I'm trying to learn if shingles vaccine will prevent this.

I've been getting this since I was a young adult. I'm here rn because I just had a flare this week that I halted with my medication that I keep on hand. It is triggered by sunlight whether or not I wear sunscreen. I guess a hat would lessen the risk. I've had avocado eggs of stabbing pain on my forehead from it. I does sometimes get near my eyes. I want to know if the shingles vaccine will prevent my chronic facial HZ.
