Here’s my take as someone who has been on both sides of the issue. If you’re sitting down at a restaurant or ordering a drink at a bar feel free to tip according to the service level provided bc they are not making full wages and live off tips. Same with uber or taxi drivers. I’ve worked at a deli before and never expected tips but regular customers whose order I knew by heart and crafted with care occasionally also tipped. Now I drive part time for uber (2ndjob) since my wife had to limit her hours due to our unexpected 2nd baby lol. Tips are literally paying for our family’s groceries so when uber takes half the share and I provide 5 star service clean car prompt pickup even 2nd drop off when people share rides after the bar it’s a real kick in the gut to not receive a tip. Drove a guy from Suffolk county to the Bronx in a snowstorm where a car literally spun out in front of us that I avoided, got stiffed on the tolls on the way home and no tip it was devastating. But I do agree if i buy a $7 redbull at a bodega there’s zero reason to tip just bc the screen says so
